Ok i been looking at these kiddie pools they selling at wallmart The ones with the slide in them. I was thinking take some plexy glass warm it with a heat gun and have it pre cut to fit. And place it on the inside of the pool. But next to the slide have it folow the slide around the side of the pool and keep it level with the side of the pool. Take another peice and make a little dam at the bottom of the slide. Take and fill the enclosed area ya just made with a bunch of ac 500 sponges. or hell go to a sponge place and but a piece big enuf to cut to fit the area. Now use a couple power heads or a pond pump. And have them pump watter to the top of the slide . The watter will run over and threw the sponges makeing a filter. And use one of them debre traps they sell for fish ponds at the inlet for the pump. And stick it in my yard. Say maybe even dig a hole and sink it down or hell leave it above ground for the summer.
What do you all think of my idea. Or what about useing one of the small pool filters that have only sand inside of them for it as a secondary filter setup :feedback: :feedback: :feedback:

buy a clear plastic one there is no dye in them and possibly no fungicide in them.

I think its a great idea for a summer pond. Just a thought, by digging in it will kept it cooler in the summer. Provide a little shade and I think it will make and excellent pond....get some pics.....

If you go through with this, I would love to see pictures, both of the finished result and during the process of getting it set up...

so what can i do to find out if it is coated with fungaside stuff?
If it is coated how do i take and uncoat it? Could i light sand it and take the surface coat off? Would i be better off coating it with some type of paint ?
I no people on here have ponds and stuff how bout some more feedback please. this would be alot easy to do right now then to fix my broken 150. I could manage to keep my fish without haveing to sell them off. anybody got any other sugestions

I don’t recommend kiddie pools for fish. The cheap $8 Walmart kiddie pools are too low that fish jump out esily. Kiddie pools are good for turtles

ok then what about the inflateable ones with the dubble tube on the outside thats like 18 inch deep
?I could always use a thrownet over the top of the pool to keep the fish in

for me word is sell a ****load of fish. or manage to save what i got for atleast the summer time. And buy my 300 gal stock bin when i get the money. What else could be used? Besides the stock bins.
What types of material is used in liners for ponds Besides rubber. I may be able to get some of the roofing rubber they use on comecial buildings like males and stuff. But my worry is if i use this and make standard yard pond not being able to filter it. I have no real pond filter and planned on useing bunch of my tank filters. On the kiddie pool . Come on people lets come up with some ideas here

Try it out and see if they die from the chemicals.
I know a few guys who said it was "safe" although i have never tried it.
Test it out for us.

Go to a local feed/farm store and see what they price plastic ?trofts? at. Local feed store here sales 150 gallon trofts for roughly $70-80.

IMO, If you can't spend $150 for just the housing the fish properly then scrap the idea. But I'd go with what Caveman said. The Water troughs are the way to go. Get plastic and not metal.

Trough is good, Alot of inflateables and hardsided, soft bottomed kiddie pools are made of cheap plastics that outgas fish killing crap. If it has a strong plastic smell when new don't risk it. The little $8 hard plastic kiddie pools work well for things like zebra dianos, guppies, and cory cats as summer breeding tanks but anything bigger tens to jump out. I lost some breeding african butterfly fish that way. They are aslo feeding stations for racoons and ravens, etc. As for cheap filters, you can make box filter from 5g buckets, just have the water pulled down thru it with an inline pump and the out flow forced thru a sprinklerhead for areation.

splash pools r pools that are certified to contain aquatic life
look into them kinda pricey
I dont think kiddie pools work for ponds. I tryed ( i am still doin it), to keep tadpoles in one... i found it by the freeway so took it home. Any way it is in fullish to partial shade most of the day. but when the sun hits it, it heats up till the water gets really hot. Like it is actually HOT to put your hand in. So if u get one i cant be a shallow one, unless u keep it in alot of shade.
Also snails always crawl into it and die... since the water warms up and gets direct sun for some of the day the water has turned GREEN u cant even see the bottom... ITs horrible. I cant get rid of it cause its gots loads of tadpoles in it tho lol. The tadpoles seem to do fine... it also is a mosquito magnet and there is loads of mosquito larvae in it. I think u should go with a trough or bigger pond. Or pool...

I like the idea, but you could also just build a square frame out of cheap plywood and then buy a pond liner and you basically have the same thing only the size you want and depth you want. IF you dig a hole you really don't even need to use the expensive plywood, you could use fiber board.
good luck

plastic becomes slimy in a few days and attracts fungi......forget it or you lose your precious fishes

kiddie pools are good but only last for about one season look into livestock troughs these are available at most feed stores or tractor supply order for you they look better and last forever even outside. they will not polute the water and you dont have to paint them to cover up the ugly design
