I have some very small angles in a 125 gallon. (About 10 nickel size) I plan to grow them out.
I recently added a school of neon's (about 30-40).
Will they eventually get eatin when the angle get bigger or will the neon's get big enough? Right now the neon's are about 3/4".

Angels and neons look so cool together, but more often than not the angels start eating the neons as soon as they can fit them in thier mouth

keep your fish fed and you shouldnt have a problem. i have never had an angel eat any fish. i feel that two small feedings a day is the best.

:iagree: You can have them together when the angels are small, but not when adult..

My angels have eaten guppies and rosies.
I wouldn't suggest keeping them with the neons for too long.

I have seen large angels and neons before and they were all doing fine and they angels didn't eat any. Besides since your raiseing them together the angels may not see them as food as they get older. Just keep them together and see what happens but if you start to see any problems occuring just remove the neons.

I have kept them togethher often, I just consider that the neons will slowly disappear to be the price of the look, try cardinals instead if you want them to last longer, the little bit of size difference is usually enough to keep them uneaten.

:iagree: I keep cardinals with my angels. Angels have ZERO interest in them although they haven't acheived full size. If anything, the cards are being dithers to keep the angels from fighting ;)

I think if you have cardinals you'll have better success, as they grow larger.. The neons might work at small sizes, but the angels towards adulthood will get more aggressive, especially if they decide to spawn.

One thing I have noticed though, if you keep your Neons in LARGE schools, other fish will ignore them.. Ever seen that public aquarium display with a schoal of a thousand neons in a tank with a 4' RTC? :)

Buy the Neons as large as you can, keep the angels well fed and be prepared to lose a couple. Good luck!

probably not depending on the fishes personality
my friend has a south american with platties and he has never found any of his fish missing

I had 50 neons and 50 glowlights that all disappeared in my tank. I had them with my discuss and angels. Ever since then I stopped buying those small tetras.

I've learned the hard way that Angels and Neon's won't mix. Every morning your going to wake up and find a few missing until none are left. I haven't had a problem with larger Cardinals however ...

I've personally always kinda liked the natural relationship between neons and angelfish. Watching adult angelfish hunt in a group is pretty cool... Especially in biotope tanks. Yes...the neons do grow fewer in number with time, but my LFS sells neons for 0.99 ea. so it's all good. Plus they look better than most generic "small feeders" and look decent even in a Q-tank for their little stretch before going into the big tank.

So yeah I agree, if you want the tetras to be a permanent fixture you're better off with adult cardinals.

Holy geez louize! I have heard it is possible, but can't imagine it: my angelfish, which is medium-large size, has such a small mouth! I can't see him eating other fish
