Hi everyone,

I need some advice...My tank water all of a sudden got cloudy, not the green water I've been reading about but actually lightly white and cloudy. My fish look fine and dont seem to be stressed out. I've done 25% water changes every 3 days so far for almost 2 weeks and still the light cloudiness is still there. Im running a marineland 330 hangon filter and a Rena Filstar Xp3 canister filter. usually my water is crystal clear and has been set up for over 4 monthes now. and I havnt had any fishstock changes expect that I did remove one of my 2 more aggressive Flowerhorns and transfered him to his own tank till I can find a way to let him go. but other than that I have the same number of fish in there. This is confusing me please I would appreciate all the info you all can provide me :feedback:

I used to have this problem as well. I honestly don't recall what the cause was, but I think the water is overoxygenated... not a health problem for the fish IME, but it does look ugly.

I'm not really sure what the cause is or how to stop it, but I had the problem recurring when I filled the tank with an irrigation hose. I solved it by letting the hose run water for a couple minutes prior to using it to fill the tank.

that does sound like it makes sense bro , I think Ill do that the next time I change my water. but do you think If i turned off my air pump it would help clear it, if it is over oxygenated?

I think its bacterial bloom . Are you feeding a lot ? cleaned the filter pads too often?
let us know what else you did other than move the fh.

White or hazy white water is usually a bacterial bloom you see it in most new tanks and tanks that can use a good cleaning

Green water is algae bloom its caused by direct or indirect sunlight, lights left on too long and even bulbs that need changing as bulbs age the color spectrum
of the light it gives off can shift which is why they should be replaced yearly-Anne

It all depends. You have to determine the cause of the bacterial bloom first.
If your tank is well established it could be that there is an excess of uneaten food.
It could be that you increased the bio load and the the bacterial bloom is a way for the tank to adjust to the increased load. You just cant clean it and expect the bacterial bloom to go away. That treats the symptoms and not the cause.

THANKS everyone for ur replies. I've been doing 10% waterchanges every other day and adding 1 teaspoon of salt for every 5 gallons of changed water and gravel vaced , then got rid of some fish from my stock and now the water is starting to clear up also Im only doing feeding twice every other day as opposed to 3 times a day as before.... hopefully Ill get her back to crystal clear as I like her heheheh
