View Full Version : PH changes and filter bacteria

I am thinking of shuffling some filters around because one of my tanks could use a boost and some more water circulation as well. I have extra AC110s but this tank is flush with the wall so I have to use a canister. I can pull either an XP2 or XP3 over from my african tank, but I am concerned about the change in pH. I buffer the African tank up to 8 (though lately it has been stubborn, I think some new rock may be working against it) and the other tank that needs the filter is at 7.2. Would that change kill my bacteria?

I don't think it will kill the bacteria.

You should be fine with using the canister on the tank in need. The only potential issue would be any harmful parasites, funguses, etc. that may be in the water of tank A getting into tank B but if you know the tank to be healthy, the water chemistry of the two tanks will be close enough that your fish will never notice.
