I've caught numerous sharks. The ones I've caught the most of are mako sharks. They taste super good. hahaha. I'v also caught thresher sharks. I have only swam with soup fin shark. They were souper timid seeing as how they were about ten feet long and I was barely five foot at the time. I LOVE SHARKS.

As an avid surfer in the 'Shark-bite capital of the world' for the last 15 years [New Smyrna Beach, Fl.] I have to say they're nowhere near the monster their name is famous for.

I've been bit 8 times but none were serious. They see little white hands or feet and think they're bait fish and attempt to feed themselves. Once they realize it's not a fish they let go.

'Course now I reside in Ohio so....

No encounters in the wild, but in high school I used to hand feed a 3.5' lemon shark at an LFS I worked at. The tank was touted as being 4000 gallons and was roughly 14'x8'x5' and housed a bunch of reef fish including a 3 or 4 foot zebra moray eel. This particular eel would only eat live craw dads which we would feed to it using a 3' grip. Obviously a 3' grip will not reach the bottom of a 5' tank so we had to stick our arm down into the water to get the food to the eel.

Normally when we do this, we have one person watching for the shark and the other focused on feeding the eel. One day I was the one feeding and my buddy was supposed to be watching. Unfortunately he got distracted by a customer when all of a sudden I felt somthing bump into my arm. Needless to say I dropped the grip and practically leapt off the ladder I was on. Fortunately the shark had just been fed or maybe the lemon shark would have had some blacktip for dinner.

All kidding aside, taking care of that shark was one of the best things I've ever been a part of. He was a beautiful creature and it broke my heart the day they gave him away.

If you do some reading in this section, you'll see many MFKers keep sharks and have a wide range of experience with them. There are serveral threads going with details of people's interactions with them.

Thanks Zdiver. I mostly just wanted to show all of the pics of sharks I found. The discussion topics were more of an appetizer to keep the thread interesting.

Never came into contact with a shark unfortantely.
I went snorkelling in Egypt last week, hoping to see some. But all I saw was octopus, sea snake, lionfish blue spotted ray etc..will have to post pics when they are developed.
Shame really..I love sharks.
