I've heard from a fren that theres a house convert to lfs in Puchong around IOI mall area, this guy collect beautiful wild caught Channa Marulioides from all over the lakes n rivers, If this is true then this is great news for us, the pricing according to him aint cheap, we're talking about 6" can easily cost you RM200 for a 7banner.

Anyone heard where is this location exactly?

Dun think so picture taking is allow, last nite I heard he is a middleman sorry for the confusion, he brings in wild caught fishes everyweek. I'm in fact hvg problem going there without a fish shop as I think he do not entertain retail buyers. I'm still blur with the exact details, but I heard there is a load coming in this saturday nite.

According to this fren of mine his bunga all sold out within 1-2 days, and ppl que up and wait for him at the gate when he brings back fishes, everyone wan to select first. I'm actually begging him to get me connected with this guy but due to his position I'm giving him a hard time as its conflicting his career. (you guys should know what I mean)

8" - 300 is very costly. judging on what u stated sounds like his fishes r top quality especially people waiting at his gate....

I've spoken to another lfs, now something new to me, he told me the rarest bunga is call "for mei" means fire tail, instead of white dot the fish has very bright red dot covering the entire dorsal, tail and anal fin. Any idea? dun say see b4, I've never even heard such thing b4.

coming back to this saturday meeting, the puchong guy claims the wild bunga has white dot at the 3 unpaired fins and connecting flower, does this sound more like thai bunga? or does malaysian variety shows the same trait?

intrxz

skareb : never heard anything about fire tail..sounds interesting. if u could get any pics of d two stated species all of us will be greatly appreciated. might be a new species or spec from neighbouring countries. someone did told me there's another type of maruloides from wild (very rare) with red colour flowers !! but until now i have not seen one. i'm dying to get hold one these specimen

I'm trying to find out more too about the fire tail. About our local toman, is it rite to say theres a sub cat:

1: they call Kuang the least beautiful bunga
2: yellow belly, individual flower (no white spot on fins)
3: Red eye, yellow belly, connecting flower, white spot on fins n body.
4: and the latest Fire tail, red spotted.

1. yellow base with red eyes
2. black base

interesting should there're a few sub-cat

Update, the guy came back from trengganu, and caught nothing, all the fish was drown. Apparently I got to understand is he ask the local Asli to catch those bunga and house them in a cage by the swamp, and the place had a massive flood and 20+ bunga was drown.

He says he will be making another trip there next week. So another 7 days to go.

From my experience deep jungle virgin ponds do not have micros, unless a lake with feeding from rivers, those micro we get in ponds are release by humans.

Peat swamp will normally get bujuk n bunga....damn I miss those days....

The fish is about 20", About yours I'm not sure, bunga are a tricky fish to play, every fish is an individual which makes them unique, and keeps the chase going. I dun think theres much we can do other than giving them your best TLC, 80% would depend on gene.

from my expirience in fish keeping, a balance diet can help, feed min 50% with live feeder fish, fish scales contain a very unique compound call guanine (i think its spelt that way) this would help your fish to max out the color n scale lustre. gut load your feeder with high quality pellet. By feeding fish you make sure your fish gets all the nutrient it needs.

Then you pump up the fish with superworm to get the shape you want, not like this fella look like come from africa, they contain the highest fat % known, followed by market prawn which of cause contains a lot of carotein which helps in the development of color compound.

Keep a dark background, the fish will adjust itself.
Water quality of top quality,
NH3/4 = 0
NO2 = 0
NO3 below 50PPM
PH 6 or lower
when you fish is of excellent health they will show thier best color...

This fish was kept in a 6x3x3 FGT pack with almost 20 monster fish, I can bet the NO3 is more than 150PPM probably followed by high ammonia. The fish was so washed out and bacteria noid had form in the head and scale was chipping and gilled curled in due to high nitrate exposure, was so badly abused. I hope the fella can have a full recovery.

Thanks for the reply, I read back some of the thread, that India Spec you get those vicious teeth, this pc has very very fine blunt teeth, nothing of the obvious

http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/6928/teethln0.jpg

I've sent the pic to a fren of mine whom are fish exporter n breeder for 20 years, he too gets confused, according to him the long slender shape makes it look like marulia, the white spotting also says marulia, but the head and pattern look maruliodes. But he is leaning more to Thai spec maybe some remote area which isnt familiar.

Any chance this is a cross bred?

teeth are as maruliodes in that pic , but every thing else shouts marulia. it is maybe the fact that some marulia have the same rounded teeth that maruliodes has but we just do not relise it yet.

i have only personally checked inside of the mouth of indian marula and pseudomarulia and both of those posess the pointed standard maruilia teeth pattern.

real shame we do not know the true locality of this specamin

It's different from Thai marulia everything. All spec of marulia that found in Thailand and SEA not like this spec. Don't forget a lot of variety of marulia from south asia too. In case of cross breeding, I don't think so.
I think I found marulia that look like this spec (except head shape) in LFS in BKK last week, size 16" but I don't interesting and take pic because its body is curve. LFS call it as Indain marulia. I will go back to compare it again.

This fella I've still no idea from where it came from no one seem to be able to identify 100%
