View Full Version : Nurse shark feeding
I went to the MOA aquarium today, got to see the Sharks being fed. An amazing experience! Feeding time at the aquarium is just like feeding at home. All the fish come to one spot in a hurry!
someone got killed in the UK by a nurseshark not too long ago. think might be a one off though
Oops, not a nurse shark, I will correct.
what they feed? whole fish or chunks or what? should av got some pics
These sharks had no exposed teeth like a nurse, was something else. Any ideas?

They've got nurse, sandtigers, browns and (last time I was there) black tips.
All of there sharks are target trained. They all have special areas they go to when it's time to be fed. Each divided out by species. Some of the nocturnal fish even get a moon light area in the back where they are fed in a more natural setting.
All the sharks are pole fed via a target. t allows for individual attention by the aquarists as well as making sure each gets the proper amount and any supplements. The other fish in the displays are fed via broadcast feeding - just throwing the food everywhere.

some nurse sharks have exposed teeth ie: grey nurse shark some dont ie: common nurse shark
I WAS right they are Common Nurse Sharks. Thanks for the help. Amazing to watch them feed. It would be much cooler if they just dumped food in for a feeding frenzy every once in a while.

If you time it correctly, you can see that type of feeding style used at MBA. All you have to do is check the feeding times, translate it to your time zone and watch the webcam!
I'll check that out. Do you have a link?

Feeding times are in the lower right corner, camera link is in the middle over the picture of the people in front of the viewing window).
This is worth seeing for anyone in the area.
