View Full Version : Pink Belly on Motoro - Sign of Trouble??

Just got back from weekend from home ... the baby ray has grown considerably and is fat. Eats big prawns as opposed to puny shrimps - takes no crap from jar or aros.
When it was swiming while taking aro food on surface :WHOA: i noticed that the belly is pink
Is it normal? From my memory he did not have a pink belly before, but i don't remember. The temp was set at 27C now upped to 30C (like the other cycling aquarium).
The ray is still pigging out as usual and swims around (pix taken yesterday). The appearance on top is fine
Should i be worried?
PS: The tank is bare bottom. No idea what water parameters are (got only the nitrite liquid test and that reads around 0.2-0.3). From memory (could not find PH liquid tester), the PH is around 6-ish. The tank is not new and aros, endli bichir lived there for awhile already. The water is permanently salted. I use dechlorinator also.

Thanks everyone for the info.
PS: yes, sorry for the messy looking tank. It is a combo of lighting and unscrubbed glass. Water is changed twice a week though so can't be that bad ... i just can't expect the maid (who has other things to do) to also scrub the tank .... besides the aros do not like when the magnetic thing moves around.... i had other things to do when i was back last weekend

The belly is not longer pink for quite sometime but i could not take any photos since my ray does not like to "fly" around the tank too much (at least when i am around)
Found him some selection of mates, but will have to determine the sex of my ray so that i can find him the opposite :D
PS: all of the current resident aros are moving out by the end of next month into a new aquarium - his sole tank mate (appart from second ray) will be new BBXB aro

Can you get some pictures of the underside of the ray? We'd be able to tell you for sure.
By the way, your ray is gorgeous!

Hmmm, the pix on the first page are the only underbelly photos i ever got. my ray does not "fly" too much - perhaps because of the aros on top
thanx - i love my ray ^^ like i said before getting a mate for him/her

Hmmm, from the photo day to water change - there are still four days to go. Water change in my tanks are weekly 25%-30% change. Water parameters are as they are supposed to be though i agree that my tanks are not the most aestheticallly pleasing - but i am into fish not the tank looks :D the next tank i will attempt to decorate a bit (got all them fake plants and all that bought and ready)

This was in reference to sexing the ray; didn't notice that it wasn't clear until after the fact.

From the top pics, the shape of the fins appear to be female. I've made that assumption before with very young rays, only to find out that the ray had tiny claspers.
