Depends on water quality, feeding, etc.
I use a heavy water change routine, and a varied diet, with quality pellets as the staple

right now it is in a 125, by possibly the summer it will be in something larger, don't have that larger tank yet, but probably an 8' tank
Cool! I just got the same guy from my LPS. I read that they can achieve 12.8" in total size. Other than that? I don't know crap about them...

my little guy has been going really well since I posted this thread, it has beceome very active, and 'begs for food' alon with the polleni and the other tankmates. Eats pellets well (used to eat just a few per feeding). Will post pics of it soon
Cool! I have mine in with a Midas baby and the Pike is like 10X faster in speed and about 1-1/2" bigger so the Midas can't catch him. Its funny cause you can see the Midas get kinda grumpy about it.

here is a pic of it last night....this little guy has a lot of personality and certainly is near the top of the hierarchy of the tank..I imagine at some point it will take over the top spot when it catches up in size with the polleni

Nice looking ven, they will easily hit 10" in a year, and probably try and eat anything close to the size of it's mouth so watch out. Mine is quite social when he sees the red pellet bag! So far he's eaten 2 tin foil barbs, 3 cons, and one crawdad. oh, and those are just the fish he's eaten that i thought were "plenty big" to be in his tank. And it's defiantly his tank. He now lives with two cons and a JD, but when a similar sized Jag went in there for holding and started picking on the other fish, he tore it to shreds over night, so watch for signs of aggression. Here's a picture after about a year and a half.

the only tankmates I worry about it eating any time soon is the firemouth and the salvini (which is a juvenile) there's also a big male con, but it should be a while until it is bite sized

update: unfortunately, I'm in the process of rehoming the pike due to its aggression towards tankmates. Back in April it killed a Dimidochromis kiwinge that I had for a year and was starting to look pretty nice. It also killed off my pearsei and 3 yr old blue acara over the course of a weekend I was out of town, so I'm having to rehome it. Currently it is separated via eggcrate, since I don't want it to harm the Polleni which is my centerpiece fish in that tank. It was a nice looking fish, and glad to have experienced pikes

seems you have the pike that has every one scared to keep pikes. the uber aggressive one. ive been lucky and have very docile pikes. they protect there territory but dont try to kill everything.
