Water Changes... do you love doing them? Well I'm tired of the doing water changes every other day on 18+ tanks...

The 24/7 drip system is a constant drip of "new" water and any excess water will overflow out the tank through the drains. Similar to a Overflow filter except it has a much slower flow rate.

Here's how my system works:

Water -> (filter) -> Aged water Barrel -> Tank -> Overflow -> drain/sink/lawn

----- Aged Water Barrel----

I tap into the cold water pipe

the aged water barrel

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/DSC07658.JPG

you have to get Float Valve!! or your place will be flooded!

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/DSC07680.JPG

the pump that pumps water into tanks

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/DSC07682.JPG

to age the water you must aerate the water 24/7

I have an air stone in the barrel but I didn't think it was enough, so Ii added a pump to circulate the water even more.

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/DSC07638.JPG

circulated back in to the barrel.

Spray bar helps spread the water around

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/DSC07672.JPG

you see the yellow quick disconnect ? why the quick disconnect?
It's just incase I need to do a quick water change :D

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/DSC07643.JPG

----- DRILL TANK----

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/DSC07670.JPG

if you want the water level to be higher, all you have to do is add an extention to allow the water level to rise.

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/DSC07666.JPG

----- NON DRILL TANK----

here is how the overflow works

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/overflow-2.jpg

here is a DIY version its much cheaper and works the same way

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/neooverflow.jpg

----- How to build a Neoprodigy DIY overflow----

Im using a 1-1/4 pvc pipe

PVC primer and cement

I use zip ties to secure it to the pole

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/DSC07648.JPG

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/DSC07645.JPG

make sure you line the water line correctly

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/DSC07650-x.jpg

you see the vinyl pipe from the tank to the overflow?

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/DSC07651.JPG

if you have time you can use pvc piping instead

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/DSC07664.JPG

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/mfkarticle/247/DSC07665.JPG

to start the siphon process I use a pump to quick start it. Pump the water until it starts to flow out of the tube.

My other setup is set to drain to the AC draining system

Awsome Neo.. Weve talked about this from the very beggining . Can you incorporate a system where you can put water treatment into the age barrel ? NJ has chloramine and it wont go away with aeration.

you have to do that first then add the primer...

Primer isnt really needed just adds a extra level to ensure you have a water tight seal, I only use Primer if the Pipe is going to be under a fair amount of pressure.

very nice li  I am more of a minimalist and like things simplistic and would worry too much about a failure of the powerhead in the aging bin or a leak somewhere along the lines....I go for straight pipes and compact efficiency myself but always like those who dabble and DIY...makes for new ideas and creative filtration...as everyone with a big tank knows...store bought filters just dont do it like a DIY system....dont get me wrong in my writings...I have a system that is all DIY and would seem quite complex to the unknowing, but it is simple compared to your drip system. very nice step by step also....if I am in the market to do a set-up as complex I will give you a call and you can come up for some of the free beer we talked about :grinyes: :grinno: :grinyes: ........

Very cool setup. I have a setup all designed, but havent been able to use it yet, waiting for my 240 gallon tank. The nice thing for me is that I have well water and dont have to treat or age my water. So, all I have to do is tap into my cold water line, probably with either 1/4" copper or plastic tubing. The line will run from the cold water line near my heating ducts for the house to take the chill off of the water before it gets to the tank, that way my heaters are doing any more work than they have to. Then line will dump directly into my tank and a valve somewhere in the line. Since my tank is going to have a wet.dry system on it, I am either going to put an overflow box in the sump or drill the sump, attach a bulkhead and run it to a drain. So this system is totally simple! The hardest part is going to be getting the valve set just perfect so that 30% of the water will be changed through the week, so approx have the line dripping about a half gallon an hour. So its will be nice no water changes, of course there still will have to be gravel cleanings, but no big deal. So what do you guys think?

Nice, Nice, Nice :woot: but a little complicated to follow those pics.

I've been thinking of the same sort of thing, but I was going to use a larger flow and overflow into an emergent plant filter bed, then recycle the water back into the system. Reccon this would remove enough of the fish wates?

you can do exactly what you are doing without having to dial in the valve. Just get a pressure regulator and a drip irrigation emitter (they are preset to X gph) and you're done.
Its what I use and it works very very well.

Depends on how many fish, if you are seriously understocked yes, otherwise, no.

DIY : 24/7 New Water Drip System

how do you get rid of chlorimines ??

they are not added to water everywhere but if they are added in your area they need to be dealt with chemically...eg prime etc:( :( :(

i have a solution for this for large systems....i will do a diy article..:WHOA: :WHOA: :WHOA: :WHOA: :WHOA:

That setup is retarded id rather just hook your tapline up to a inline icemaker filter and run a tiny line to your tank with a floatvalve at the end.

Just seems like your gonna have to time the aged water and turn the system on and off alot. On maybe a week like cycle, The problem i see it takes water more then 24+ to declorinate so you cant have a continous flow like RO filter or inline icemakefilter would give you. Nice work tho.
