View Full Version : UGF Fluidized Bed Filter

Saw this on YouTube, how well would this work? At all? Anyone tried before?

All of the bed filters I've seen have much deeper sand and water circulation in a tower of some sort, not as substrate. I like the idea for keep junk off the tank bottom but have to wonder if it would be nearly as effective for BB.

It's just a reverse flow UGF not a fluidized bed as indicated. Fluidized bed requires flow through suspended media (mostly sand).

Under the sand would become a collection of muck. Not something you want in your tank.

That is kind of what I was thinking as far as being useful. Good point on the collection of junk under the sand. Hadn't thought of that.

LOL that was mine. I pulled it out of the tank after 3 days because the pvc tubing that I used kept floating to the top of the sand.

If it makes you feel any better I was looking on YouTube after watching the video you put up of the awesome acrylic one in your sump!

Here is a link to another site's article about this subject. I am planning to try this idea when I get time. I think this project as they lay it out will both keep the junk off the bottom and avoid the muck issue that others have talked about.
