I picked this guy up at the LFS. He was labeled as Pike Cichlid. After referencing the ID thread Ièm fairly sure he is a sp. Venezuala.

I really like this guy. He is a pig and will eat feeders untill his belly is stuffed. Even with a full belly he will grab another feeder and hold it until he can pass the two already in his gut.

I hope he grows ar a decent rate as I don;t want my monos to eat him.

At that size I would not discount the possibility that it may be a Cr. johanna. Don't worry about growth rate, most pikes grow very fast as juveniles. Anyway, nice pickup!

Looks like a johanna to me It will get around 12''-14''

an Adult johanna could go with medium size Pbass but might get eaten by adult pbass so if you plan on keeping it with pbass i would get a bigger pike

Not that I'm one to be an expert, but it looks just like one the lfs has that they called a venn.

i don't see a caudal spot, which would indicate johanna

I can't believe how small he was!

Here is an update. He is in his new home, a 300G tank and is a terror but I love him. Not only did the bass not eat him, he chases them off his log jam all day long, all the way to the end of the tank. He is a serious badass, around 9", and one of the coolest fish I've ever kept:

I just took a look at the ID threads again and he appears to be a Johanna. Agreed?
