That would be my recently deceased Titanic Panaque. I lost the entire 650gal last week. The Panaque and 21" M. irwini (uranoscopus) are at the taxidermist's.

"Normally"; a thousand and up. However, I got mine direct from the importer so I paid about 1/2.

Sorry for your lost. But that's a really a huge titanic panaque. How long it took to grow till this size?

I detailed it in another thread. The short story is:

Went to family reunion for 5 days.
3000gph pump impeller seized up.
DO went to nearly 0.
Lost the 36" titanic, 21" uranoscopus, tigrinus, RTCxTSN, P. niger, Siniperca chuatsi, 2 large mbu puffers, 2 RBPacus.

No idea yet what the taxidermy bill will be. But, I didn't want to just bury the 2 biggest monsters in the garden. The mbus were too far gone for mount work. I'll eventually get around to doing a skull prep on the others.

That sucks Oddball. That was a great pleco, and getting another anywhere near that size is expensive, as well as shipping costs.

Nice A. Hystrix. With him being the top dog in the tank, he naturally would be aggressive. But the beauty of these fish makes it all worth it.

P.S. Nice Tigrinus

does your tig and histrix co-exist well enough?

nice adonis I just bought one today at 3 inch long its got a way to go
I assume they get to 10 inch in first year or so and then slowly "gigantificate " heh heh... and their spots how long do they stay for ?

The Acanthicus adonis has spots all its life. The acanthicus Hystrix pictured above never has spots. If yours has spots it is the Acanthicus Adonis.

:iagree: though the spots tend to get smaller (in proportion to size of fish) and fewer with age. these fish get to a good monster size. i especially like these, because their pectoral fins get big too, and always remind me of sharks.

I personally prefer the Adonis over Hystrix, but have loved both types.

I used to have a carnivorous Common pleco. He would swim at the top and drop on unsuspecting fish and weigh them down, and suck them to death. We would find a fish at the bottom with a white spot about 1.75" in diameter. Poor things never saw it coming. By the way he was around 22"

I gotta get me an adonis...

Are they aggressive towards other fish??

WyldFya
04-14-2006, 6:55 AM
They are often agressive toward other plecos. They will pick fights with larger plecos, but the fight will dwindle as they establish a pecking order of sorts. If you keep them with other plecos, try to keep them with some fairly tough species that are larger. Keeps the ego of the adonis down.

and make sure that if you put it with a catfish, that its not a pushover, not that many monsters are

WyldFya

I had mine temporarily with some smaller plecos, and he would bully them around quite a bit. When I noticed this I put him back with my 10" Choclate, and he will take him on, but not as often, as most times the choclate will get his way. He didn't really bother my 14" Marble Cat when they were together, but then again that cat was scared of his own shadow.
