was feeding the specimens in the 220 today and noticed a shell about the size of a dime at the bottom of the tank

My 200g has a chip out of the bottom glass right near the front corner. The dime sized chip came loose from the tank (and into my hand while carrying it) and I siliconed it back into place a year ago. No problems since.
It's a chip. The shell look is because of the direction of the impact. It's location is not going to compromise the integrity of the tank. You have nothing to worry about.
I'm not going to sell myself or my qualifications, but the guesses in threads like this cover the whole spectrum. You'll have to figure it out on your own from here. The general consensus is correct though.
