yeh the filter system is amazing. regular 2 month cleanups of the filter media and 4 month water changes ensure high quality water for MONSTER growth!. those baby arows r around 2 months old....by next year they shud be put in the pond. then ill have an arowana army.

Looks like a swimming pool that was never used being put to good use.
Way out of my league mate and amazing as well.
Just one point though, with SA aros having a tendancy to jump does it not worry you?
Looking at the pictures there doesn't seem like much could stop them (in the pond) if they did jump.
I'd be thinking about a stone wall if it were me, but it isn't is it, so at the end of the day I'm WELL JELOUS!!

yeh my big arow did jump out once but i caught him just in time. he hasnt jumped out again in 2 years. i guess the more space an arowana has the less chance it has of jumping because it does not feel trapped or closed in. plus i feed him whole fish from the market that sink so he doesnt really look for food in the air.

I recon it is normal for jar to grow faster than the green. My jar is much larger than the green. Hehehehe the diet of your aros is the same as mine except that i give them frozen crickets (+market prawns) as well as live frogs (not in season right now) too ... mine silver aro set-up is somewhat crowded already lol

Great pond. One question though: what happens if ur arowana jumps out of it?
arowanas have a lesser chance of jumping in ponds because it does not feel trapped/enclosed so it just swims away if it is scared. secondly it is fully reliant on fish from the market for food so it does not have to jump for insects.

however the arowana has jumped out once in the past. i just had to put him back in. one jump in 3 years is not bad! fingers crossed i guess!

How do you keep them from jumping from a pond? I have always wondered...
well i think it all comes down to a few things:

1.) make sure the arowanas are large and confident enuf to not be intimidated by the other pondmates.
2.) make sure they are well fed and fat (seems to make them more calm LOL)
3.) provide LARGE open spaces so that they never feel trapped or cornered.
4.) make sure u dont keep them with aggressive pond mates
5.) PRAY! ive had 1 jump from my arow, luckily my helper saw and put him back in. so far i havent had any accidents from any of my fish :s *fingers crossed*

yeh dude they grow really really quickly wen they are juveniles...i got them wen they were about 5 inches? but they were powerfed for slightly more than 2 months...maybe like 6 months? so they grew around 3" per month and put on a lot of girth.

However, these are old photos, the 2 biggest silvers in he tank are alreadey nin the pond and are slightly over 2 feet now. silvers can grow just as fast as arapaimas up to a certain size. BELIEVE IT!

no i hate rocks or hiding places. first of all large arowanas dont really hide in caves and stuff. second of all rocks just create more areas where my fish can injure themselves. with fish like arowanas, large open spaces are usually the best :)

Hi Sir.

Am writing from the Philippines. You might have heard the super typhoon that hit us.

Some parts of the country still do not have electricity. A hobbyist who owns 2 30" Silver Arowana lives in one such part.

This afternoon, I'm "rescuing" these fish (actually buying it for a token amount) and plan to house them in my 1kG pond. Would you be so kind as to give me some tips on raising BIG Silver Aros?

I guess the first thing I need to do is to find a BIG cover, I kinda struck Aros off my stocking list because I didn't want to deal with a netting, but I guess now I have to.

hey bro yes i have heard about the typhoon. im so sorry to hear about it. i can only imagine what all of u r going thru.

Its awesome that u r rescuing 2 monster arows! luckily for u, arowanas are one of the strongest type of fish that u can keep. They barely fall sick and are easy to feed. I wud suggest handfeeding them cheap dead fish from the market. this will save u the trouble of finding live food and is almost much cleaner (less chance of sickness) for the fish. If the fish struggle to eat dead food then shake the fish in front of their faces. this almost ALWAYS works! just watch out for ure fingers! Obviously try and keep the water clean and everything shud be perfect.

the netting shud be fine for a while. Just make sure that the other fish dont bully ure arows cuz they might spook them into jumping out!

if u need anymore specific questions just pm me or leave more messages here. good luck bro!
