ive ben trying to catch a gar fo reither my tank or pond. and have had no luck. what should i use for bait and how should i rig it. ive been using a live chub, shiner, or small bullhead catfish (wich ever i can find) and float it about 2 feet under a slip float. but the only thing ive caught was bass and catfish.

hmm..interesting. But if you're really using shrimps, just let it swim in the water to attract rather than sinkng it.;)

I agree with koji let it float naturally to attract the little fella your after.
Nothing more sweeter to a fish than a Shrimp swimming for it's dear life.
