Thought I'd show a DIY work in progress of a discus model that I'm making. When I'm done carving all the details, a mold will be made to make multiples and then they will all be painted. After that they will be attached to trophies and awarded to the winners of this years NADA show held at the ACA convention in Chicago. Coolest commission I've ever landed!
ah i just got a crazy idea, the discus discus (a discus for throwing with a discus fish on it)

I just took this picture of my female. Full of eggs with her breeding tube out.

And this is her mate. His color is amazing in person, he is so much brighter than the picture shows.

Got another one I really liked :)
Nice one remy is that a peruvian?
Tai95,
How did you determine the male and female? is there a clear distinction or is the breeding tub the only way you new?
I still havent found out how to determine sex with Angels, I have four Angels for about 3+ months now and still dont know. I'm also waiting for signs of pairing up but havent seen anything.
Nice Angels

Nice Angels
I watched them lay eggs, that's a pretty good way of telling sex.
I have never been able to tell sexes without seeing the breeding tube. Some people say they can, but I can't. I've heard about males having bumps on their heads, longer fins, and a million other things. Once they are ready to breed the female will start plumping up and her tube will start coming out. They will also spend hours cleaning the spawn site. When you see this they will lay eggs in a day or two.
This pair is not the best parents though, they seem to love their own fry. I've tried to let nature take it's course, but after the eggs become wigglers they eat them. They have spawned like five times now with the same results every time. They get one more chance and then I'm gonna have to step in.
Your angels are still kinda young to pair off. I've heard of breeding as young as 6 months, but 10+ months is probably the average. If you have four your chances of getting a pair is pretty good. Keep the temp up, don't skimp on water changes, and feed them a good varied diet and you should see them pair up soon.
If you have anymore questions PM me.
Here is my male breeder from last year and one of him with his mate. It looks like he has a funny head, but it's just one of his black spots, came out weird in the pic. Both were sold on Aquabid (why oh why! My buyer got a steal of a deal!)

About a month ago I posted these same gold angels. They have grown quite a bit since then. Is that a Willischuarttzi, Madeira yellow heckel or something different?
Mr.Geoff
06-18-2006, 11:34 AM
there are two wilds in there. both are heckels from mannus. we delt with a direct importer from there so i have a general idea of where they came form. as far as i know they are both just regular heckels.

Mr.Geoff
06-20-2006, 11:04 AM
well in ONE night that darn male ate 18 cardinal tetras. every...last...one. before this stunt he decided to go and kill the discus that where in the tank with it. that was pretty much the end of his life with me. i took him to one of the LFS and said he ate all my cardinals, turn him into cardinals. so i walked away with 14 cardinals out of the deal. haha
i wish the pictures were better and had more sense of scale. the last one is closest, he is against the back wall of the 55..so he was a good 6" long and about 8-9 inches tall or so..
loach43
06-20-2006, 6:09 PM
Ouch. Somehow I suspected that your victims were either neons or cardinals. My gold pair are laying eggs now and have become quite hateful of all other tankmates. They haven't topped out in size yet so I still have some time left before moving them.

Hey Mr.geoff, is that a self collected piece of wood in your tank? If so, what kind of tree is it from?
Mr.Geoff
06-22-2006, 12:27 PM
yes sir it is self collected. i have yet to ever buy a single piece of wood. every piece i have i find. i have no idea what kind it is. i found, liked it, cleaned it and bam..in the tank it went. i just added a new piece to the 75 yesterday and will be adding another piece when i get back from florida, its still soaking.
all i do is find wood thats not green and has been sun baked for a while. then i clean em off ( cold water ) then i soak them in a tank of hot water til they sink. do water changes on it once or twice a week as well

To those of you who were talking about your angels eating other fish... I have a question. I broke down an old 10g the other day and dumped all its occupants (about 50 three month old guppies destined to be dinner anyway) into an angel tank. I have a blue blusher who chased the two dozen or so that didnt get eaten and attacked them one by one... only biting their heads off, spitting out the head, and continuing on to the next guppy. Whats the deal with that???

Nice looking Angel. However it's definitely not Koi. It's Gold Marble. A koi angel is a blushing Angel and will not show striations or lines or patterns on the fins.
Here's a Koi Angel as depicted in the FloridaGuppiesPlus website. Look at the fins.
Also when young, Koi Angels will have transparent gill covers making them appear to be blushing. As they age the gill covers gets covered by irridescense making it translucent.

Well My wife keeps taking me into new areas for me LOL.. Since the 150 is back up and running and she wouldn't let it go :) We decided it was hers and she would stock it :)
Here are a couple of the inhabitants :) And mind your there are only a couple other different sp. of fish with these :) But Angels are completely new to me !! :) How did she do???

I unfortunetlly found out that angels are a little bias on looks.. .. my yellow angel became a cast-away and then a runt and then died.. :/ thats why i try to get look alikes
I try to get at least 2 of each type...so far there r no loners, they do choose their own lil' clusters to school with rather than their look-alikes though:)

I've posted these on this thread more than once already but 10 months have passed so I figured an update wouldn't be outta line. Largest batch of eggs I've seen from this pair yet.
