not really any news, but i'm just excited about the new fish i got. 3 umbees, a black nasty, and a butikoferi. right now they are all together with some dither giant danios in a 55g, but i have larger tanks for each of them when they grow larger and more aggressive. right now they are all between 1 and 1.5 inches so its no problem. anyway, they are all fat and happy and i needed an outlet for my enthusiasm.

rayboy, here is a pic of an adult male umbee (Caquetaia umbriferus) (http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/images/umbie.male.jpg) .

knickwight, congrats on the new soon-to-be-monsters. :grinyes: one word of advice, make sure there is plenty of oxygenation in the tank (powerheads, airstones and plenty of water movement from filters) for the black nasty. black nastys are especially prone to bloat, and while some people believe it is due to too high a protein diet, I believe it is due to improper water quality and levels of oxygen in the water. remember they mostly come from very fast moving rivers in the wild so they are used to very clean water with lots of oxygen and this needs to be replicated in the aquarium.

Congratulation on your new fish collection, :clap you now own my 3 favorite fish of all time. All you would need is a dovii and a pike and your set. Since people are giving advice I would recommend keeping the umbees isolated I am willing to bet you will lose a fish or two if you don’t. I realize you may think there is no major threat giving there size, however, there more liable to die if they face a worthy adversary. Read up on the umbee requirements and wants. I wish you the best with your umbee’s there truly worth owning. :) Pictures please
