Just got in a pair of Aparicios that I ordered through a lfs. They are both extremely skinny especially the female. The good news is they ate within 3 minutes of being in the tank. Must of been starved at their previous home. They both ate ghost shrimp right off the bat and then chased those down with cut up night crawlers. I will fatten them up and post some more pics soon. The wildest thing is look at the male. Fully mature at a measured 7.5 inches. DB Junkie is the only other person I know of to have a motoro sport mature at this size. I don't want to brag, but they are the nicest aparicios I have seen besides Aj's and Kolosus's. They are already named Tarzan and Jane by the wife.

Nice pair FishDog.
Really surprise to see a 7.5" male with rolled claspers. May be it's already matured, just the size isn't that big.

Them things sure are purdy..... Nice find.
Can't believe these came from a LFS. Its hard enough to track down Retics around here. Never seen a Motoro in a store yet here in the dirty corn.
Cool that you found a "stunted" ray too.......LOL

These were not at the lfs, they were on there stock list from a supplier. This place is the largest in nashville and can get just about anything. I would definetly love to see this male mate with my female marbles. Another odd thing is I have two rays larger than them and the aparicios have larger mouths than them. Maybe they are both stunted?

No way chief....... Lb for Lb Zero is "the" hero. When comparing claspers Lb for Lb if it's not "the" zero..... it's just a zero. LOL I don't know about you but I never imagined the day I'de be sitting on the internet arguing clasper dimensions......... LMAO. Good stuff. But you really want to settle this you need a tape to prove size......
The stunted bit was just a joke.....LOL It was just a thought passed along as to why mature at such a small size. One of the crazy theories that was passed along. I personally like the Scobina mixxed in idea.
Wierd you mention the mouth thing too.... Zero was able to eat whole pieces of shrimp from day one, something my other rays struggle with at 10 inches. Friggin thing has nasty teeth too.....

i'm feeling that even these fish resemble a motoro, but its probably a different species with all the described, larger mouth, more teeth, big clasper at smaller size, which all point to a different animal all together.

or could still be a motoro varient that just comes from a different area... adapted these traits because of that...

Interesting... Yeah, mine had fully rolled claspers at about 8in too. Very nice pair by the way! Mine really isn't an aggressive eater though. I was thinking mine would be sweet if it bred with my female MM too. The markings on mine actually have marbling around them too. Very nice pickup!
