Picked up a pair of what my lfs called albino kyoga flamebacks.Man i had to have them as soon as i seen them but cant find any info on these and are wondering if anyone on here has seen these before or are they something diffrent.Either way its a sweet pickup and the female is even holding so im keeping her in my 30 gallon until she spits.Im hoping to raise these nice to me fish and make a complete set up in a 90 gallon with black sand and background. There still shy since i have just got them so i couldnt get great pics and the camera is just a Kodak. So albino flameback or something else?Rare or not rare?
Second set of pics is a peacock i want to try and have sexed. Was told it was male but its about 3inches and im beginning to wonder. Thanks in advace for any help.
It is really hard to ID albino victorians, unless you got them from reputable sources. I've never really seen or even heard about albino xystichromis kyoga flamebacks. Where did you get this fish and can the source prove that they are albino kyoga flamebacks?

Thet had just came in and i dont know his source, maybe ill ask.The camera doesnt show the great orange and yellow in this male.Female is all yellow though. All the other peacocks in the store were labeled correctly to my knowledge but i have never seen these or google cant find a link to even one!Hes shaped exactly like my other flamebacks but with this coloration.Ive bought a lot of my africans from this store and the owners quite knowlageable but he like every one can be fooled or perhaps fool me.In persom this fish has a great tequila sunrise color.Even if its not a flameback i had to have these. They were selling for 30.00 for the male and 40.00 for the pair.Male is 4 inches+ female is 2-3.

http://cichlidlovers.com/h_ruby_green_a.htm I finally found my fish and my instincts were right, not flameback. My eyes were right though,i think its stunning. Now for the peacock 3-4 inches showing yellow in fins and just a little behind gill.No eggs spots.Ibought it when it was about 2 inches in what was supposed to be an all male tank.Late maturing male or female or just a sub-dominant.Also no males in my tank are trying to court this fish and it fights with other males often.

Yea im with you there but its done now and im happy with the fish so.....:headbang2Ill definutely let him know so he will change the sign to reflect what they are.I should have done more research on the fish but i wanted it either way since ive never seen them.
I've seen albino ruby greens, but just not the albino kyoga flamebacks. Where is the source where these albino victorians are coming from? It would help alot, because I know of a seller who once sold albino kyoga flamebacks which resembled yours highly. Can you get a better picture of your fish as I am still not yet convinced that your fish are albino haplochromis ruby greens.

I don't know if those are albino ruby greens, but I can tell you those are some nice looking fish. The color doesn't seem right to me though, but it could possibly be an albino ruby green. It is very hard to identify albino vics, since there are a few albino vic species out there which are all so similar. Just try to figure out where these fish came from and what these fish were listed as from the source. After all, victorians are very complex fishes and getting an exact ID is difficult, especially for those whom are listed or sold incorrectly, etc.

Ill ask today but im with you on the looks of them.I may have paid a bit much but im satisfied and i dont know anyone personally that owns them.I have quite a few albino haps, peacocks and others,im an albino fan,but nothing im as fond of as this one.
Im not dogging my favorite lfs even if it was mislabeled, not saying it is but?,im just glad i have them and hope to get some quality fry.The male has killed almost all of the other fish in the holding tank so that kind of sucks though.
I Agree, I'm not sure they look like Rubies either, they are cool though.

I don't know about you, but the coloration of the fish doesn't look to be of an albino ruby green. See if you can notice the difference. The female also looks different to me as well and to me, the ruby green has a different shape. This is how an albino ruby green should look like (Check the link).

Ooops here they are.
Judging from the new pics, they might just be ruby greens. He is very beautiful and you are very lucky to own such a beaut. I believe they are ruby greens, but I'm just not so sure though. The female is all that's bothering me. The female doesn't look right. Any more pics of the female?

She still has eggs in her mouth.
The shape of the female just throws me off a bit. I've never kept a female ruby green with that kind of body shape. She looks nice though. Best way for an exact ID is to trace the source and where they came from, like what I said earlier. Good luck. ;)

Eddie Martin, owner of bluegrassaquatics.com right? I believe he is the owner of the albino ruby green I posted. He should have experience with the species and he should be a big help. ;) What are you planning to get from him?
