Documentaries and Videos. What are in your opinion the best Documentaries and videos on Cichlids. Looking to expand my library, and wondered what were some of your favs.

Well, if you youtube Lake malawi or Lake Tanganyika, you'll get some pretty cool 5-minute documentaries. I don't think that's what you were looking for though. . .

jewel of the rift is pretty sweet. found a copy at goodwill for 50 cents! what a steal.

Yep Jewel of the Rift is the only one that I have seen,its what got me into Emperors.

Well I bought Ad's presentation on feeding behavior of cichlids of lake malawi. So that is all I have right now. I would like more.

Jewels of the Rift is probably the most well known. I also hear there is a Malawi documentary, but I have never seen it. If you could get Jewels on DVD, that would be awesome.

There are some educational ones on Youtube ,but there are some really cool entertaining ones as well. Sometimes Animal Planet or the Discover Channel have documentaries on Lake Malawi,but you have to pay attention to programing to find out when.

There's a short section in one of David Attenborough's series (think it was Blue Planet - Shallow Waters). Some awesome footage of Lake Malawi, mouthbrooding etc. Well worth a watch.

Refering to the David Attenborough series, I think it might have been 'Planet Earth', rather than the Blue Planet. Both are amazing wildlife (lots to do with the ocean) documentary series produced by the BBC. Easy to find and download if you want to watch them.

I have the short part from blue planet already. I can not find Jewel of the Rift on DVD anywhere. I did get it thou.

I am not looking for videos of people's aquariums. I am looking for Documentaries and educational videos.

There's not a lot of them out there. Email National Geographic and ask for documentaries, best way to get an exhaustive answer.

BBC's Planet Earth series "Freshwater" on disk one of my dvd set has a short bit about African Cichlids but its not as long as I would have liked.

All these Planet Earth videos were on youtube they are not mine but they are a great watch!!!

BBC - Amazon Abyss, its not a cichlid doc but I think I do remember seeing cichlids in it.

What I would give for a lake malawi series documentary. 8 Hours of lake malawi, I would have to wear a bib from all the drooling.

a tanganyikan video i have not seen mentioned here is "hidden african beauties" by H.W.Diekoff.

it is about 40 minutes long and is similar to jewels of the rift.

I just watched BBC "Wild Africa" Series episode 5 "Lakes and Rivers" has a 10min blurb about Lake Malawi.

I seen it before but had forgotten, I have hundreds of nature documentaries. Its a great show, worth watching the whole thing or even the whole series its great too.
