I got three VERY small dwarf puffers in my ten gallon with a eclipse 1 hood with a built in 184 gph filter with bio wheel. Its cycled and they will live there until they out grow it and move on to a 29 gallon as their final tank. Anyways since I got them today I fed them blood worms they ate them I am curious what else do they eat that is small enough for the baby puffers ?

malaysian trumpet snails are easy to come by. they would make great treats! i think small ghost shrimp would be ok. dont use blood worms as a staple diet unless you are supplementing in with something like vita chem.

vita chem ? Will brine shrimp, krill ,silver sides , beef heart work ? What else can I give them that actually has nutrients?

I feed my GSP Frozen Brine Shrimp and Spirulina flakes with the occasional Snail to keep there teeth in check.

I don't know about Dwarf puffers but Green spotted puffers teeth keep growing and if you don't give them something hard to chew aka snails, crab etc. there teeth will get so long they can't close there mouth and they will starve to death.

the snails should be no bigger than the puffers eye as a rule of thumb.
anything bigger and they can't chew it.

hm wonder where I can find snails that small these guys are actually pee sized lol. I should have been more prepared . But when I see a rescue opportunity I jump. They are loving their ten gallon with the eclipse 1 hood. There is three in there alone of course .

as long as all of the foods you listed are small enough they will be sufficient. EXCEPT the brine. i would supplement that also. malaysian trumpet snails are very small. they are no bigger than the puffers. you could also supplement live ghost shrimp by previously feeding the shrimp something nutricious so when the puffer eats it it will pass the nutrients to the puffer. 3 may not work in the 10g i have heard people say 4g per one puffer, but im sure that varies. plus depending on the sex of the fish plays a big role too.if you have 3 males your pretty much screwed from what i have heard. i think one way of telling is a line on the underside. if the line is present you have a male. again, im not sure though as i have never kept this species personally. i have only cared for them when working at an lfs.

If you can get frozen mysis shrimp they will like that. Mysis are very small shrimp and come in cubes. You could alternate with blood worms and mysis and snails and also some mashed up raw market shrimp. And that would be a good diet for them.

Get a 5g and a sponge filter. Get some pouch snails (Physas sp.) and overfeed it. You should have enough supply for your puffer.

Pouch snails are still quicker.;) Depending on the humidity and temperature, mystery snails take longer to hatch.

Pouch snails are fine in any tanks, no matter the decors. Once you drop them in a tank, they begin laying dozens of egg sacs containing dozens of baby snails in each sac. Pouch snails are often found hitchhiking among plants. They become a nuisance when they breed in large numbers.
