6 months is a good guess depending on how small it is when you get it.
I would say a year at the max (assuming it is well fed and well taken care of)

:iagree: get a bigger tank first... saves a lot of stress, and possible jump suicide time when you have to switch tanks.

Go after something with a foot print of at least 72x36, but bigger the better.

Well... how long is your silver now? If it is around 6-7 inches, then i will probably last around 10 months. I say just use the 75 for now, then when it comes to time try to get the biggest aquarium you can to house the silver, something at least 6ft long X 2ft front to back.
By that time you can always use your 75 gal. to house other fishes or create a beautiful aquarium set up.
For me... it's always good to have an extra aquarium around!! :grinyes: :woot:
