Tanksize: 5x3x2
Tank volume: 225gals
Filtration: 75gal sump, powered by rio26HF, 1600GPH
Stocklist: (2)20" cuban gars, 16" florida gar, (3)12" florida gars, 17" alligator gar, 13" endlicheri
Feeding regieme: 220g of shrimp 3 times per week as staple diet, with occasional treats of pellets, whole fish and smelt
Waterchange regieme: 25% per week
Substrate: crushed corals and aragonite
pH: 7
MISC notes: The current stocklist minus the 3 small gars have been going on with little to no aggression for about 3 months, while the 3 small gars have been in there for a week or so with no aggression towards them. the tank is starting to look crowded with so many fish, and i will be toning it down to just the 2 cubans, and 2 small spotteds, with more bichirs. i am still looking to getting tropicals, and will add them when i get some, but as solomon said before, 4 large gars in a tank this sized is actually plenty.

nice. we started this on AP sometime back, but just never kept up with it. i would highly suggest adding temperature to this listing as that is one of the primary factors influencing fishes overall...and based on that recommendations can be made on feeding regime and even water changes--

16"+ L. platyrhincus
Tanksize: 6'x18"x30"
Tank volume: 170G
Filtration: fx5 and 30G w/d
Feeding regieme: 1 or 2x daily
Diet: f/d krill, market fish, hikari cichlid gold & carnivore but he usually ignores the pellets
Waterchange regieme: 50% weekly
Temp: ~78F
Tankmates: Senegal bichir, 2x convicts, JD, 2x severum, chocolate cichlid, pinktail chalceus
Substrate: PFS
pH: ~7.4
MISC notes: eg how long it's worked, if there are problems among tankmates, future plans, etc - Been working for about 10 months (got the gar @ 1'). I expect it would/will continue to work but my tank is becoming too small for the gar, 12' diameter outdoor pond is in the plans this spring.
As for the food volume, my gar probably takes 8-10 f/d krill or 3-4 strips of fish (catfish, tilapia, whatever) each day. Sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on his mood.

did you actually have gars in there? i think it should be noted that agressive cichlids, well cichlids in general are bad tankmates for gar. and the pleco is probably even worse

not to be a busy body, but this was partly the idea of the thread too. a few issues you might find,
cichla and pike cichlids are pretty bad tankmates for gar.
a 5x2x2 tank is way to big for a 3" gar, especially with those tankmates
lots of bogwood is not necessary for gar, and actually increases the chances of injury

3 x alligator gars (two are close ~3', the smaller one is catching up fast)
Tanksize: 3x2x0.8m

Waterchange regieme: once a month
Tankmates: 2 x RTCs, 1 x Oscar, 1 x Marble Pim

huge fish:D maybe that's why the cichlids and cats leave the gars alone do you suppose?

There is only one cichlid and two gars grew-up with it in a 6' tank. The gars were babies while the O was an adult (O is close to seven years old)
RTCs and gars were introduced in the 3x2/0.8m set-up - no problems what so ever
