A lfs has baby silver aro's for 16 bucks. (One still has sack). First is this a good price? What would be a good size tank to start one in, would 55 be all right for a year, until I can get bigger tank. thanks in advance, new fish owner.

No you can't keep a silver in a 55 for a year. And for a full grown sliver aro you need a very large tank like 300 gallons

Aros average about an inch per month ... which makes your little guy way too big for a 55 in a year. It should be fine for a few months though...

If you were to buy one, I would suggest starting to make plans for his final home as soon as you bought him. That way the new tank would be set up, cycled and ready by the time he's big enough.

Hope it helps!

Another silver will cross your path, they are not rare so theres nothing wrong with taking your time and waiting.

there are MANY other fish you could happily house in a 55g.

If you have the money for a new tank then go ahead. If you don't, then things will happen to delay the new tank and your fish will suffer.
