Is it possible to keep an arowana in a 72x18x24. I have an oportunity to recieve a 72x18x24 for next to nothing. I had a small siver arowana and it was killed by one of my oscars. I now have the oportunity to get a large tank for free. I would like to put a silver in there by itsself, bare bottom, huge filtration. Everyone states that min tank size is 72x24x24,... well will 6 inches really make a diffrence. All advice would be great. I really want an arowana, but i also want the fish to be happy with its living invironment

thanks

An aro would eventually outgrow that tank, but without a doubt take the tank. There are so many other cool species that could live in that size tank for life. It would be ashame to let something like that go. You could do a few pike, or other cichlids, or a ton of other cool species.

Unfortunaley it is not big enough.

You could grow it out in it though.

here
get the cool deal tank, grow out 3 silver aro in there for a year and get a much bigger tank or make a pond. That's what I would do, and also throw in a couple of pbass.

if you're planning to start with a small silver, then you could probably use the tank for atleast 6months then you should start looking for a bigger one.

My black aro grew from 6" to nearly 2' in just over 2 years in my 5'x2'x2' tank. Any longer and he would have been touching front to back when trying to turn around. Silvers grow faster too.
As everyone else said, take the free tank, but plan on getting something over 3' wide.
