I setup a tank with some established water and stream gravel today. I used a buffer, salt, and stresscoat so far. Ph stayed 6.6 overnight and i let the 2 filters run. I used about 40% of the tanks water out of another established tank. The gravel is from a local stream well cleaned first, no soap of course. I guess I am asking can I throw a couple small pbass in there with some biospira tomorrow to get the tank going??

FYI ~ Aged water does nothing :) It is the bacteria in your filter media that will 'jump start' your new tank.. And I would recommend pbass, especially juvies. Think feeder fish, give them some heavy salt while they are cycling, and you will have free pbass food when it's ready ;)

More than my $$ I don't like to kill the fish but i got 2 6" ps for $20each. Thats a pretty good deal! I'll keep the pricey orinos out of there for awhile, though!

yupe, its safe to throw in a couple of pbass to start the cycle going just make sure you feed them disease free feeders and everything should go smoothly.

How big is the tank? Just watch your water parameters, and don't let your ammonia or NI get too high..

Nitra-zorb is not good in a new tank, it prevents the developement of a good benificial bacteria growth by keeping the nitrogen products level artificially low, at this time the levels should be left alone with a small fish population so that the bacteria colony can grow to meet the need, otherwise when the nitra-zorb reaches capacity you will have a spike.

Yes you cant Cycle the tank without the cycle taking place I hear Zebra danios make great cycling fish and would make a great snack for Pbass after it was cycled ;)
