Some photos of the Parachromis from Honduras. I saw Dr. Paul Loiselle on Thursday at the North Jersey auction. He said that he felt that they were a variant of Fredrichsthali. Juan Miquel listed them as such on the Cichlid Room Companion. Myself and a few others have been calling them a variant of Loiselle...or Parachromis Sp. Honduras. Whatever they are...they are a beautiful fish.

Hi Aquamojo, fantastic this loiselle how all your cichlids, congrat :)

So the experts are saying freddy? I don't know what to make of the male, but the female is almost indistinguishable from friedrichsthallii. I have always wondered though, how does this fish get specifically classified as freddy, loisellei, or other? What process of identification does it go through that makes the descision concrete?

Great fish and photos by the way. :)

Stunning Parachromis. Thank you for sharing.

No doubt gorgeous fish. If you dont mind me asking, What camera specs and or methods do you use for photographing the fish? Your picture quality is unbelievable, I feel like im in the tank with them.

Thanks. I think the key is in the lighting. I generally shoot a Nikon D3 on manual. aperture is around F22 or higher at high shutter speed 1/320th. This requires more light. I use three flashes in general...all synced to the camera via cable and commander mode. The flash units are the main source of light. Occasionally I will use a reflector. Placement of the flashes vary...but in general two on top and one below. That's a real broad stroke. Settings vary with every couple shots. You can manually adjust the amount of light coming out of each individual flash head. I change it plus or minus on each to get the desired or sought after effect.

Hope that helps.
