One of my female blue Dolphins laid eggs at the same time the other one spit her eggs and hatched in a 10 gallon tank....here's a pic of the one who was laying eggs...look behind the fish and you'll see the eggs. It's so rewarding to get fry from a breeding group.
Now I have to work on getting fry from my Paretroplus menarambo pair. The female looks ready to lay any day now. I'll be ecstatic if that happens!

As for picture taking i have a Nikon D40 with reg lens and a extend lens 55x200mm
what i do is take far away shots with room lights off and only my tank light on with the flash off but you have to be very steady, most turn out blurry. close up shots i use the same technique but i use the flash on and get real close with the zoom or i switch out to my lower 18x55mm lens get right up to the tank and capture at an angle normally aiming down at the fish yields best results..

Thanks.......sorry the pictures are fuzzy......i suck at taking pictures...LOL
It's been a few years but i'm back in the hobby. I just got a 150 gallon with rift lake. I got the tank and fish used . The fish look great. The question is; I how important is the ph to these type of fish? I get some pic out there in a bit
Pittbull
02-26-2009, 11:39 PM
If your talking African rift lake cichlids PH isn't as important as is the Hardness and don't take me wrong a PH of 6.0 would be horrible for them becuase it would throw your Hardness out of wack..
I would shoot for a higher PH at 8.0 but a PH at 7.4 with the Hardness between 200 to 400ppm would be ideal.. somewhere in between..
