Actually none is better than goldfish . Goldfish and red rosies contains thiaminase
an enzyme or chemical compound that destroys vitamin B1. I would rather feed something pellets or shrimps than feeder that are high in fats and would rob your fish of vit b1.

i fully agree with you...since there are no other alternatives, you may wish to add additional supplement for vit B1 if need to.... :shakehead

Sorry to derail!

Yeah you can add but they are also known to contain parasites and other disease. Its really now worth it for regular feedings. I use it once in a while.

over here in manila we have both feeder goldfish and katabas (mosquito fish) that are usually used for feeders.. katabas are cheaper and are the ones mostly use.. i usually only feed them to my very stubborn fish that don't want to eat frozen foods (indo tiger and peacock bass).. i've been trying for ages but these 2 just wont budge :swear:

I hear ya there. I am lucky that my big Peacock bass eats Pellets and only pellets. He wotn take anything else. Maybe the occasional feeder and tank mate.

how did you get yours to eat pellets? mine is very stubborn.. i've managed to use the splash technique to eat dilis (anchovies) but after the first one he sort of wises up and wait to see if the one i trow is moving or not and then hits it when he's sure is live

btw: sorry for the slight derailed topic..

Jack - i know bro! You shouldve held on to it. Theyre hard to come by at those size. True Monsters!!

Kido- when i was a kid , i used to buy feeder guppies.. they were sold by the bagfuls.
I believe they called it "isdang kanal"? (LOL) are those the same as the mosquito fish you described? Sorry to derail!

there are actually 2 kinds of isdang kanal.. one is the guppy and the other is the katabas (mosquito fish) the katabas grow bigger so they are more popular to use as feeders.. about 4-5" adult and very fat when pregnant :)

That's a beautiful piece you got there. Am I right to say that this species of snakehead is sometimes labelled as 'Cobra Snakehead' ?

its easy to switch fish from feeders

toss in feeders one at a time so the fish recognizes the splash with food, do this for 3-4 days until the fish is full

starve for 3 days, throw in one or two feeders to get them excited, then throw in same sized piece of frozen shrimps, if they dotn go for it starve for a week and repeat the process
