so far i have 5 mirror carp, 5 common carp , 10 ghost hybrid with mirror carp so thats 20 fosh and i might be getting 4 Shusui carp aswell and others but any nice ones and im thinking 3m by 2m by 2m for the pond . as its easy to get that size and decent size aswell as i will sell of some of the ghost and common and mirror carp aswell.

Your looking at 2600g(UK), twenty fish could be overstocked depending on the filtration used, you could get away with it I guess going silly on the filtration with a couple of Nexus 300s and a shower. Have you planned the filters yet?

welll so far what im planing with the pond stock list is:
10 ghost koi carp low grade (not the normal ghost carp) soon to be 4
3 ghost koi carp A grade so it says ;)
5 common carp soon to be 2
5 mirror carp soon to be 2
6 tench
5 chub
3 grass carp
8 gold and blue orfe
4 crucuian carp (spelling lol)
and some nice koi aswell
for the fillteration on this pond im thiking on leaving it out and have one nice size one to turn on every know and then to clean up the bottom in thinking of a planted pond will do the list of plants soon.
and this pond i hope will be natrual pond as iv said about my uncles so ill ask him how to set it up. there will be a lot of plants in one conner and then a set of lilly pads in the middle, so then the water will have a nice green coulor to it as it looks nice like that mabey not see the tench and barble much but will be good though can get them out in years to come and see how much they have grown !!! haha.
the plant stock list:
1 set of lilly pads-Alba
5 large clumps of oxygen plants .(placed all over the pond)
simple uk native plants realy carnt think of the name lol but there 2 others aswell lol.
as for the pond size im thinking more of the size of 7ft by4ft-5ft mabey 2m but 2ft-30" deep .
fillteration will be not on at all unless ineed to clean the crap off the bottom every blue moon ! haha.
so i will instual a bubble pump and a water founting as the plant will oxygenat a lot any way but gives it more feacher aswell and current for the barble and chub as it will stock up the carp aswell make them much stocker looking . i will be spending a lot of money on this aswell . sigh. lol but other then that it will be worth it and am planing a wooden bass with some breesblokes around it aswell for extra surport depending on what is probley best for the stuckture , ANY advice on this is welcome ;).
so it should be a nice pond .
cheers

Hey josh, go for the sturgeon, get the smaller species like ruthenus or see if you can get as shovelnose. Trust me when i say they will be the most rewarding fish in the pond and that size pond is fine for either of the 2 smaller species i mentioned.

alsothe stock list you posted is quite a bit over the top and needs trimming down substantialy, also you may need to get rid of the sturegon when they reach 18" or so but ruthenus will take a good 3-5 years to get that big if you buy it small (4" is a good size)

yes but would they live in the water as this is a natrual water like fishing pools i hope it gose that way any way they need clean water i do like the sturgeon though :naughty:

I've kept a couple of sturgeon species and the farm bred ones tend to be fine in complete freshwater in this country, they do need clean water but its not hard to achieve good water as long as you don't go way over the top with stocking. Also pay out £80 or so if your willing for an albino ruthenus as they tend to grow slower and not as big as the standards for whatever reason.

That's a lot of fish Josh, looking at trimming the stocking down. You mention that this is going to be a natural pond and although the planting will help with natural filtration, I'd still look into it you'll need it.
As for the structure, a wooden base is no good, concrete is the way to go, is this in ground or above ground? If it's in ground then you really could get away with nothing but the base.
You say you want a green tint to the water well that's easy don't run UV and it'll be very green, to green if the pond is in direct sunlight, you could run a UV that's not quite up to the job for a nice green tint.
I'd forget tench for the simple reason that you will not see them as they are bottom feeders, also chub are not good in ponds(I know it can be done but that's a different discussion, same with barbel).
Grass carp are good for looking after types of algae.
Keep us posted

I'd leave the barbel out, they are river fish by nature, just MO and I can't see the point of the tench if your not going to be able to see them.
Why not go for a couple of nice koi like the sunsui you posted a couple of ghosts and a grass?

think what i might do is just have a pond like bogwood bruces and have some tench and koi in there and lose the river fish mabey a group of 5 orfe
so what about this stock list
2 grass carp
3 tench
5 orfe
ive gotta have one or two say 2 goldfish  have to have one makes a pond a pond.
15 mixed carp
(will sell some ones on later on when they are worth some ££££cash££££ unless i get atached as im thinking of haveing some tropical fish.
i can get a 6ft long x 4ft wide x 2ft deep
as some of the carp will go down to a cupple like 5-10 carp
mabey sell some other fish aswell but other then that what u think?
cheers

The filter you refer to will be no good at all, your talking about huge volumes of water and flow rates here, I've been having the same argument wil my folks for years on filtration. On the pond front bigger is better, not these tiny canister style things. Rule of thumb if it says koi filter, then it isn't, although all filtration helps.
Have you seen the filtration on my pond in the diy thread, I given it some thinking and doubling it is my new idea?
