Just came back from Infinite Aquatics, and I already want to go back :D

I picked up a baby ornate and baby platinum senegalus.

The ornate looks male, to go with my female, and the plat sen looks female, to go with my male.

The stress washed out the ornates color, so I will take some update pics in a couple days. Infinites stock of ornates are really really nice! High contrast and deep orange color. Couldn't ask for a better ornate.

Thanks, even though it'll be a couple years before they mature (maybe longer?) I am hoping to breed them.

True :naughty:

Hopefully they dig each other when she's mature and spawn. That's my goal 3 or 4 years from now, hopefully they are mature then.

nice

Thank you Hebe, let's see your new one! Do you know if you swooped up a male or female?

Ornate

Good choice, that was my first poly species :D

Nice :bling:

Bro, I tried putting her in with the big girls, and she almost got eaten! She's in my snail tank/grow-out tank lol

I just did one on her grow-out tank lol I'm probably going to be doing it twice a week while shes in there.

Mine and Joes's seemed to have topped out at 8-9"

It's been two years from since I got my male @ 5" so maybe he might grow another inch or two, the last couple inches take years. For all I know, he could be maxed out though.

I haven't measured him in a long time though, maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

yeah there is another one just like this one in with a spoonhead one. I picked this one because it looked more female and I want to breed them eventually.

You're going to like the ornates, they have good color and pattern like the ones from Jesus.

Canada is not a good place to buy Bichirs as sene, albino sene and ornates are the ones avilable, that's why I buy my bichirs online. My supplier still can't fifn me a nice looking plat sene as the one he got right now have plenty of deformed body parts. Very common on plat varaiant of bichirs.

Oh that's right, I forgot your're in Canada, I keep thinking you're in the Philippines.

Rich does have one spoonhead plat, the others look very normal. I'm happy that all the scales are normal and they don't have that sunk-in scale or or zig-zag scale, I hate that.

Same here. When I got my first plat endli it was alos deformed as one of the eye is normal and the other is looking upward. It also got some zig-zag scales and some bent finlets.

Bro you don't even wanna know..... I live down the street from Rich, yes, Infinite Aquatics Rich. That means I don't pay shipping, I make the 5min drive to his place and pick them up!

What sucks is when I don't have the budget for fish and he has something I want

Wow you live in the same home town!? That's awesome! Did you go to that free outdoor concert they had? Man that show looked amazing.

I bet that sucks, there is a 15 min drive to my lfs. They cant afford ordering Hikari pellets, they just ordered some fish, 2x Jardini, second time they get to the country for $100 no thank you :grinno:.

I feel your pain, i always see something i really want, the lfs has those 2 beautiful ornates, but for $150 at 5". For another example i pay $5 for a single neon tetra. This is the cheapest lfs in the country.

Yes i went to the concerts. Im no big fan but i sure listen to them alot.

I say you remaining an aquarist through all of the inequalities birthed from living in the region, makes you one of the hardest core fish keepers in my book. I mean that.

If ornates were that rare around here, I'd drop the money to get one.

My first one cost me $40 at 5" in early 2002. At the time, I was a kid in high school, and my parents only gave me money if I washed their cars, $10 per car lol

Being in the hobby was not easy in those days.

Being in the hobby was not easy in those days.I can understand what it is like for you guys cuz I am in the same situation. I had to give up eating out for one month to be able to afford two 16"+ teugelsi!:D I had to give up steak dinners and spur of the moment spending on food just to get nice fish.

The trick is that they are not that rare here. I have kept 2 ornates. But i have decided to try to get some of the rarer sp. of cichlid in the hobby more into iceland. I have in order some Amphilophus Rhytisma. And some poly's as soon as i can afford. I have a decent excuse not having any money, 15 year old kid with no job. Well in the summer my lfs can maybe get me a job..

Good luck with the Ornates again Serg.
