I want to see all of your 55g bichir tanks. It may give me some ideas, also I want to see how some of you use the space.

I'll post mine up as soon as it's full w/ fish...

IMO, 55g tanks make for terrible polypterus tanks, too narrow, at least for long term use, but for grow-out they're okay.

My first polypterus ever was an ornate, I got it when I was in high school living with my dad and didn't know much about polypterus other than they reminded me of coelacanths and I liked them.

I kept it in my 'big' tank which was a 55g. That was back in 2002:

I have changed much.. Updated pictures coming soon. Substrate didnt bother him but he had to really sniff for his pellets, still found them in under 2 minutes. Highly recommend canister filter surface skimmer (fluval). http://s60.photobucket.com/albums/h3/chewible/?action=view&current=IMG_1598.jpg

Cut to size some cheap black felt and affix with velcro strips. It'll keep the sunlight out and add contrast to your tank.

Yeah, they're a bit narrow, but for the smaller species I think they're alright.

I won't be putting any Ornates in, that's for sure. :D

Nice setups everyone (wookish and Cohazard)!

Here's a quick shot of mine from a few months ago. It's got a little less decor now, and there might not be any polys in it in a while either.

What do you use for ferts?
