Marble isnt eating ... tried starving her for shrimp because she is still on earthworms, noticed she wasnt eating that or moving around that much and now she refuses earthworms, did another water change, and put her in my Pup cage so she can be alone. Also I noticed some disk raising but not death curl more like irritation so i dosed with some melafix. Also its almost like she is (coughing) at points

Sounds similar to what my other little girl was doing yesterday...

Hows her breathing? Is it accelerated?

My new MM/Mantilla male was disc raising, so I took out the sand (estes) and it ceased after a couple of days. I don't think the sand caused it, it just didn't help. Not sure what caused it, but I upped the w/c's as well and he is all good now.

I have had this happen before, things seem fine for a week or two, following importation, and then bam they are curling. I noticed it most frequently with Motoro's out of Columbia. Never happened to me with a Peru Motoro.

Very interesting, why do you think that is?

Was this pup CB thou? I could see it making a difference if it was imported, but if it was CB, how could it make a difference?

i have had her for a good couple months too... went back to normal .... :/

Weird....

Like others said, I wouldnt be so fast to medicate, I would just keep the water very clean, lights down low, and worms avilable to eat 24/7. Just my .02

turkeyboy85

all i did was a half dose of mela, and secluded her from my male motoro, since they were seculuded from the rest of the pack. She is wild, the one i got from aquascape

Why... becuase I think that they get treated like garbage at collection, transport, holding, tranship, or a combination. I firmly believe that this is why so many "teacups" do so poorly, they are cheap and get treated as such.

Sorry this is happening Turkey, it is so hard to watch.

lol, but this is a she... they are sopose to be smarter then that ;)

Gr8KarmaSF
03-11-2009, 12:10 PM
If its possibly caused from a blockage then I wouldnt feed her anymore and let her system clear. Additional worms might make the problem worse IF this is the cause...

turkeyboy85
03-11-2009, 12:14 PM
her breathing is very speratic, and i moved my input from my tank to blow on her a lil and she just kinda slid to the other side of the "tank" from the current.... its not looking to good

skynoch
03-11-2009, 12:15 PM
Not sure if it was a blockage on mine but it looks identical to mine and it went away so that would be a guess only.

After doing some reading, it seems that using Binox as a PERCAUTIONARY measure on W/C rays would be a good practice... Just like Prazi.... Maybe I'm wrong but going back to the basics it seems kinda hard to doubt Ross.

For clarification Turkeys, and my rays are not from the same place, however maybe thier point of collection is similar....

My lil girl will raise herself up completely off the bottom of the tank, almost like she's assuming the eating possision but no food. Still refusing all worms.

Mine was also breathing REALLY fast up until the Binox dose 2 days ago, since then her breathing has calmed, don't know if it was from the Binox, or seperating from the other fish....

Not everyone...... If I'm not mistaken it's just people with fresh imports.....

Crazy thought for you guys to wrap your heads around....

People can get Bird flu. Can rays be getting our flu or something similar?

To be honest, I dont have any secrets. :D

Only thing Ive done is barebottom with weekly water changes. I quarnt. for a few weeks BUT did not treat with anything. The lack of treatment during quarnt. seems to be the only real difference I can think of. She is even eating krill already.

Perhaps the quarnt. treatment SOMEHOW is linked to this outbreak? Could it possibly house or act as a host to something bad thus causing this? :screwy: I know it sounds far fetched but I cant think of anything else thats different from what you guys have done...

:nilly:

Do I still get a cookie? =)

I tryed feeding my one male again tonight but no luck. The rest ate ok. It was only the two that i thought was breeding. I even tryed stuffing food under him to eat and he just moves away. This sucks a big one. Ive had these guys for about 8 months now....i had a water issue awhile back i dont know if that did it but this is crazy. I do a 50% water change twice a week and i feed every night. Very little sand on the bottom also. Sorry to use your thead on this but cant get no hits on my other one. I wish everyone good luck on theirs.

Sorry for you loss. I had a female motoro awhile back that passed on and her underside looked almost like that. Very very red and irritated underneath on a bare bottem tank. I phoned a vet that handles all the aquatic animals here at the Tenn Aquarium and he felt it was an underlying parasite/bacteria. I should have taken her to me for checkup but it was too late.

Florencebigfish
03-11-2009, 8:20 PM
Was it red right off the back...as soon as you took her out? Or after she was out of the water after awhile.

sorry if over analyzing... but how big are the other 3 if they can consume a pound of shrimp!!! If they are that big, I can't imagine that the ray that died was all that comfortable in the tank with them! Not trying to flame, I really want to know, b/c a pound of shrimp is, idk, enough for 3 x 20" rays?

Sorry for your loss.

The three rays that ate the shrimp are my prego female motoro - 15" male leo- 18" and female leo 15" , there was a divider set up in the tank, to seperate those three from my male motoro (9") and this little girl (6"), the male motoro had 3 shrimp, so to state how hungry the rest were i left him out of it

tank125
03-12-2009, 1:27 PM
I would assume that the ray in question was stressed, even with a divider.
