What do you feed your FRT's?

I feed mine kiwi( before.. too messy), kaytee land turtle pellets, hikari wafer discs and market shrimp. Any suggestions to my short list?? I tried banana and grapes before the but the lil guy doesnt seem interested.

:omg: It's so cute, I kinda want to eat it.

Are they much work to care for???

I used to have a painted turtle, and I don't think you can ask for an easier, more laid back, easy to care for, kinda turtle.

LOL Dont eat my turtle!!!
I suppose they are about as musch work as regular turtles. The cool
thing about them is that they have flippers instead of legs and they
are aquatic.. no basking required!! Most Monster Fish Keepers keep
frts with their fish.

They are easy to keep...they just need real strong filtration , high ph
and clean water.. thats it.

the downsides are they're really !@#$%ing expensive, and turtle #$% is nastier than fish @#$%.

Also, while many keepers have kept them successfully in fish setups, others have had them take serious bites out of their fish.

yes, everyone wants the babies, but very few have the proper space to house them as they get larger

iheartfishies

Ok, well, what do you think a proper enclosure size is suitable for a full grown adult?

How long does it take for them to reach max size?

Is it better to keep them in a smaller tank as a juv to help with finding food and feeling more secure?

piranha45

not sure on the exact growth rate, but at least 5 years. Maybe 10 to hit full adult size..

they can be kept in 180gs for quite a while (~2-3 years), I think their inherent bioload would require at least a 125g for a very small specimen.

YAY I'm a convict!

oops, ok, sorry.

Ayway...

so a 180 for a couple years, is that including I try and keep it with other tank makes?

Or does that mean I need bigger!

my knowledge on these turtles is limited because i dont find them desirable, wait around a bit and let neo or redtailfool to get on and elaborate, theyve both kept tons of em

I have 2 , 1 coming from the rayman... i would recommend a 75 g with strong filtration for a juvy frt... you can mix it with fish but make sure those fish are expendable.... no prize collection with an frt or youll set yourself up for a heartbreak.
I feed mine kaytee turtle pellets and hikari sinking wafer.. used to feed it fruts but its just too damn messy and besides, the frt is almost 5 inches and ok to be fed high protein food.

I will have to setup a small pond if and when the frt reaches its adult size.. that would take 2-3 years though so i have some time. Like Neo said, they are easy to keep.. just make sure to change the water at least once every 2 weeks or more ( depending on the bioload)

Wait...

Why wouldn't you use DeChlor anyway?

I always have for all my turtles whether they be kept inside or outside.
