very young and hard to tell, big eyes, and elongated body make me think green sunfish

to MultiSpecies:
That is a good possibility
It has the same tail and dorsal fin as a green

Bottomfeeder:
doesn't really look similar

I read 12 inches max
but thats wild ones

how bout captive size? 4-6" probably right?

MultispeciesTamer

no they get pretty big ive caught one form my pond close to 13. You can expect it to get just as big captive because unlike the wild they got a longer growing season and constant food

really?
y isn't it the same with other fish then

Don't forget that wilds have a huge lake, while captives are in a tank

MultispeciesTamer

maybe because of the foods in the wild compared to the foods they get in captivity, my max size was a little to big so for most its 12 but there are cases of bigger ones.

ive heard that they rarely exceed 8''

I would say 8-10" is the average but they can get larger than that.

Can i ask what feature of this pic makes you think it might be a P-Seed?? At that small size and inability to really pick out many points of ID. Its a guess at best. I agree with some others all that haveing been said and say green. Those are also the most commonly found in LFS shippments for some reason.

green sunfish are usually the most common from any lake or pond because they overpopulate it like crazy so that would be a likely candidate.
Cool fish, i have three i caught myself.

Not much need to get tore up over fish, after youve been doing this for over 30 years, fins-r-fins. I tend to agree the Greens are or can be beautiful fish, but dont play well with others. Now if i could just develop PEOPLE SKILLS, i would qualify to be a mod or maybe start off as a mod-let

They have white, but quite a few here in Indiana have bright yellow or gold fins with just a white edge.
