Just picked this guy up from the auction for 32 bucks! at 5 1/2 in. I still think I stole him. Perfect condition, and he's been taking a liking to a 3in. calvus i've had for a while. Hopefully the smaller is a female.

Sweet!
I always loved these guys.
Are they active in the tank, i.e., always swimming or are they a pretty chill fish?

Darn good deal. Beautiful set, I hope they pair off for you.

junglej

Yeah, definately hope they pair up. but I got my hooks on a good sized female just in case. The auction was in kaukauna, no dats rays or arrows, sorry. They usually have alot of livebearers, plecos, and some cichlids.

WOW 5 1/2 inches!!!! hes probably a good 6 or 7 years old. Awesome score man, the LFS sell 3.5 inch ones for like $59.99

junglej
03-20-2009, 4:38 PM
He's about three years old! Yeah, I couldn't believe it myself. I probably could have picked up a pair for like 75 on aquabid but i would have to pay shipping then. I figured 32 bucks aint a thing if i get a pair out of the deal(with my other ones). And Ben- Where are the pics of the tetracanthus? hopefully they dont beat the crap out of the rest of your stock!

Cool sweet deal buddy..

Our Local fish club is having their spring auction next month and i hope i find some sweet deals like that but currently i have 15 Calvus and Comps, by far one of my most favorite fish..

Hey iamzrad (http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/member.php?u=47196) they are chilled fish til another same specie member gets to close then the chase begins, i have observed mine flank to the side when one of my other Tangs nips at them pretty cool to watch how they flank another fish.. but pretty mellow for a Tang..

junglej
03-23-2009, 12:27 AM
yeah, but still too many guppies, angels, n bristlenose. I really got sick of listening to "and here we have a pair of albino bristlenose" It was seriously like a broken record!
Zepplin, PM me the price on your "critter cage" I just opened up a 7ft wide by 3ft deep space in the bedroom and taxes have come back

junglej

here's another pic, he's not real shy at all anymore, out all the time. In a tank of mostly cyps and werneri, he rules the roost. Picked him up a for sure female when I picked up the wc comps.

I just sold 4 2" black calvus for 10 a piece, I really got sick of waiting. I still have my original black calvus who is almost 4 in. Had him for 3+ yrs.

04-14-2009, 11:10 PM
Nice my black is about 3 1/2 inches and is always munching NLS and ghost shrimp. That one is a monster and I would have bought him at that price in a heartbeat.

cool deal when they do spawn post a photo i bet they will be sweet.. my Ornatipinnis fry are still small but are doing great i think i have counted 20 of them far more than the 3 i thought i had..

junglej
04-20-2009, 3:19 PM
You can bet i'll be posting! Everything will be in caps, postings will be everywhere! LOL I've been waiting for it over three years now. When it does happen i'm gonna be slightly excited.Thats awesome that there are more fry, then we can swap 6 or so.

junglej
04-20-2009, 3:23 PM
Pittbull, you wouldnt wanna swap any others, would you? i I currently have Hecqui fry,V. Moori fry, a couple Brevis Kavalla fry, Cyp. "utinta" fry, and Tons of multies.

Pittbull
04-20-2009, 10:54 PM
yeah i would swap with ya i wouldn't mind a few of the Moori babies.. but buddy when i say those Ornatipinnis are small they are tiny slow growing boogers aye.. do you want to wait til their a little bigger like an inch..

junglej
04-21-2009, 1:25 AM
doesn't really matter to me when we do it. I'm in no hurry, and i'm sure i'll have plenty of each for a while. And if it comes down to it, i'll just keep a dozen of each so i'll have em for ya. just let me know when they get 3/4 to an inch.

junglej
04-21-2009, 1:27 AM
might be trading a couple moori's for some carullius?, I guess they are like a lyre-tail Brevis.

Pittbull
04-21-2009, 11:39 AM
Cool deal my friend sounds good also i was paying close attention to my Ornatipinnis fry and i believe i have two batches of fry from different spawns one group of fry are tiny and the second group are a little bigger and i believe the momma is fanning a new batch in her shell she definitely is a busy fishy..

Also if i didn't mention this before the parents are F1 here is a photo of one of the larger fry..

This photo is the only one i could get of the tiny fry..

354725

Hey thanks for saving me some fry i really appreciate that i also currently have about 50 Lamp Caudopunctatus fry that i pulled from the parents about a week ago so they are still tiny and i have 1 Lelupi fry he is about 1 inch from my Lelupi breeders plus the Lelupi are breeding again..

I definitely will stay in touch my friend talk to you soon.. take care..

junglej
04-21-2009, 2:02 PM
caudapunctatus are sweet! I just gave mine to a buddy, as i only had 3 and he has a much larger group. Kinda figured he'd have the best luck trying to breed them. He's the guy who gave me the moori's in trade for some olivaecious.

Pittbull
04-21-2009, 8:20 PM
Cool deal i couldn't remember who said they wanted some of the Caudopunct's i will probably give them away too when they are big enough..

mike dunagan
