They are not odd or deformed. They were probably kept in dark environment and cause that long barbels to grow longer as they are still young. Just my 2 cents. I'll let Koji answer the truth for us as he knows his fish.
Nice long barbels btw Koji! Love them! Pm me the price, I might talk to Jay from arovillage to order some for me.
lol thats cool but a bit too long haha
wish i had a handfull of stunners....
Guys. It's one harmless experiment you can do to your aros. Just keep them in total darkness and you will notice that their barbels growing longer over the time. They are not born defect or deform nor through selective breeding. They are just normal juvenile banjar red in the farm which I kept them in a FGT without lights.:)
They willl venutally shorten up once they are been kept in our natural enviroment.
sorry for my ignorance but whats FGT?

My comm tank is fairly dark. When i got mines from Sing, the red had fairly long barbels. I think they are shortening up as they grow.

Interesting, if you cut out sight for an aro, he grows longer barbels, which I would suppose they use as a sensory organ. If you interfere with one of their senses they compensate with another sense............cool stuff.
