Here is a video when I picked up my male obliq. for my female. When I placed him in the tank, he was the same color as her. And as I was rescaping everything and in the middle of a water change (excuse the quality of the water), BAM, his colors shine!

are you sure those are ZO's? Yours have red in their tails, look more like a hap sp 44 or hybrid between the two which would explain the broken barring.

I don't think that's an Astatotilapia latifasciata. As said, it looks more like a hap. thick skin because of the red coloring in its tail.

My male has red in his belly, Hap. 44's don't.

You are right about the red in the stomach. But what confuses me is that the your fish is so dark in color. Could be a hybrid of the two species. Give it some time and get a new picture.

It's a Zebra. Bought from a breeder (I'm second owner). His face is not normally that black, he was just dancing for the female.
Might need to pickup another female, she's not that interested in him. :(

What about the red fins? Can ZO's have those?
