I HAD an osacr, snook and tinfoil barb. they all got new homes due to fighting (except the oscar that died). I have a jack in a 120g and it seems like such a waste for just one fish. I put a divider in the tank for a while and then tried again, no good. They would go at it through the plexi-glass. He tore part of the snooks mouth off so I am just not sure what I can put with him. He, she, whatever is about 3 years old. Any ideas on what would be compatible? Thanks!

I have a female JD that is a total terror. She tears the face up on any cichlid that lip locks with her.

I found the best solution is to stock the tank to the MAX. Get 8-9 other fish, preferably larger cichlids, and introduce them all at the same time. I had very good luck with this technique.

A bunch of Salivini's would be cool! I would even get 10 of those...

agreed. or you could get a jardini and a dovii chic. and then your jd would be scared to death and or dead:nilly:lol

I am not really familiar with any of the suggested fish. So 10 wouldn't be too many for a 120g? That is strange, when there were four fish--no fighting and when there were just two, that is when the fights started. I bought this from my daughter as a favor and the fish came with it. I guess I will read up on which I want to try. Could I put a couple more jd's in the tank, also? Thanks for all the input.

Wow, I just watched a video on youtube of two salvini's in some major liplocks. Is that how they are? or was there maybe just something else going on?

Salvini's are little terrors for sure. However, they LOVE being social with each other and just being rowdy. They won't mess with the JD too much since the JD is a bigger fish (Salvini's only reach 5" and never bigger than 6") however they won't let the JD beat up on them either.

To top it off, they are beautiful, interesting fish. Most small fish I've had experience with don't have much personality; salvini's are completely different. They are always playing around, being strange, and showing off. They are IMO the most colorful SA/CA you can find and they'll really color your tank up with intense yellows, reds, and even a little blue.

You can probably add another JD or two, however unless you want to attempt breeding I wouldn't recommend it as JD's are a more terretorial fish than most people realize; especially against their own kind.

If this is your first SA/CA cichlid tank, try out some salvinis, they are a super hardy fish, classy, colorful, and will be plenty active to divert that nastiness in your JD.

Plus, not everyone has salvini's....

I guess I have decided on the salvini, now to find some. My petstore doesn't have any and all the one's online are 1 to 2 inches. Nice tastly snack for a jack. I will just have to keep looking. Thanks for all the help. I am mainly a saltwater person so this will be intersting and a lot easier too.

Interesting and easier, and A LOT cheaper...

I bet he has some wild ones with decent size on them. Beautiful little buggers!

Get a green terror, red tiger motaguense, and like 3 big male convicts, and all the anger should get spread out, and if you wanted i bet you could do a small school of tinfoil barbs for even more spreading of aggression.
