Gotta see this

Aquaponics is nothing new. You could easily DIY a setup (search the forum, there are already posts about it).

The article is more about art than anything else. Definately not a case of art merging with practicality. An answer to the local food problem? Yeah because buying a couple of expensive (poorly designed for aquaponics from what I can see) glass setups from some artist and sticking a plant or 2 on top is going to do that.:screwy:

Seems to be poorly executed. The tanks don't look healthy (I wouldn't want a big tank full of dirty water with some unhealthy looking fish in it if I paid good money to some artist....) and I don't see much plant matter being grown.

Don't mean to be negative, it just seems a bit silly and pretentious.

I was thinking the same, but also, if a filter was added underneath, it would be a good idea, and not a bad looking one as long as the health of the fish was more a priority than the plants growing. I can see where it does work however, and it's not a bad idea at all.:)

HAHA u know wat i mean i read use this for idea and thursday look long try to read eye glass. Jesus ?CHRIST!

The problem is growing plants like this in aquariums compromises the health of the fish because they compete for oxygen and nutrients without giving anything back to the system (unlike aquatic plants). You need much lower stocking levels with good filtration and aeration.

Currently working on setting up an a 36inch flower pot over my tank with peace lily house plants and pothos as a filter. I'm hoping to have a venturi system set up in the pot for the plants and bubbler in the tank to keep the oxygen levels ups. I have a turtle tank set up with pothos in a bin which the hob filter water dumps into prior to returning to the tank, and my stats are actually all in order bare in mind I have ended up taking out the filter media from the filter with the exception of the sponge on the intake. So I believe that there's is a workable balance that can be acheived. The problems come from making it look presentable, as my turtle tank is something I'd have in my living room.
