Is hornwort a root feeder or does it take nutrients from the water?

Hornwort has no true roots. In the wild it is often floating. So, it isn't a root feeder. It absorbs everything it needs from the water.

It forms some holdfast type things if you try to put it in the substrate.

Thanks, I can get a bunch of it free from this living science center that supplies my school with stuff for the science classrooms.

I am also getting some nice snail free elodea from there because the only local stuff is fricking infested with MTS! I hate the little buggers!

Yeah you just throw it in the tank and let it float. Its like a piece of seaweed really.
