Nice fish, if this is the quarantine, what size tank will they be going in? Watch out for those auratus', they will become terrors.

After quarantine, they will be going into a 75 gal. for a while, and then into a 125!

What kind of rocks are those? It looks like granite, quartzite or arkose. I thought africans had to be on calcerous rocks. I dont know for sure, that's why I'm asking. :grinno:

Yep, they are granite rocks. I asked the guy if they were fine to use with African cichlids, and he said yep.

nice, but that will be a headache to clean if someone dies in there or food/poop accumulates

The idea is great, you just need to use bigger bolders and have more space in between, otherwise you'll have way too much detritus gathering under those rocks.
Here's something that worked for me

Really great looking rockwork.

Yea I guess granite is fine as long as you add some salts--looks pretty too. But I agree, I wouldnt wanna deal with the cleaning in such tight rock
Nice fish too; the ones a LFS near me are all scrawny looking. There's like no cover in there for them--poor little fellas.
Baby convicts today!! Will be posting photos soon:D

Oh, I also had a question: I've seen some people that come into my shop with african and SA cichlids in the same tank. I didnt think that was appropriate; anyone know?

Yea, I use the Cichlid Salt. It helps keep the water parameters just like that of their natural environment.

Nice tank. When they get a little bigger, i will upgrade to larger rocks, and make sure they have plenty of hiding places. Right now they are still pretty tiny though!

I like it it does look cool but you will probably be rearranging things once you move them so that would be a good time to clean underneath rocks etc... I usually rearrange things when adding new fish to the mix as well... lowers aggression. Things will get interesting when they all reach about 4 in so you'll really see how well they will all get along and go from there... my male auratus is a terror and so was my blue zebra he had to be removed once he reached 5 in got too aggressive toward the other mbunas... my male kenyi and electric yellow will fued every now and then too especially if they are going into spawning mode which is very frequent lol good luck w it!!

Yeah, that's a no for me. Different water requirements, and in many cases different diets as well.
