My arowanas ate from my hand for the first time today, unless you count the time I was talking to my wife, with food in the tank, and had one come bite my finger that was dangling in the water. Took quite a while but quite rewarding.
Nice. Mine started doing this too not long ago. It's a good way to monitor his food intake.

Just one of the great experiences of owning a aro.
My first silver that ate from my hand was so gentle. The one I have now seems like he wants to take my whole hand off.

I saw your video that you feed your big girl some raw shrimp. That is SO FREAKIN SWEET! Can't wait for mine to get to be that size.

Ah the beauty of diverse fish. Each one will have its own personality.
Beware, I was bitten by my crazy adult red before when hand feeding. No serous injury just some blood, fine little teeth marks and a little itchy.

my aro & ray eat from my hand as well. very cool
think if you have a comm tank, they'd not be so gentle. :grinyes:
most of the time they'd rush and snap at anything that fall into the water. guess it's survival of the fittest when there is more of them living together.
good job, hope it keeps working. rays feeding from hand are pretty cool too

also there's some cool movies in the video section where
someone's feeding his dats and peacock bass by hand.

Actually I didn't have to train any of them. They just have been leery about coming up to my hand. I've been trying every day before I feed them, and yesterday they just decided to take a bite.

Ever since I started feeding mine crickets he won't even go near the krill anymore, :swear: but he'll eat anything else I give him, so far.

Speakin of which, I just got bit twice today while feeding. Didn't hurt though. Just a slight nip. The thing that hurt most was the first one scared the crap out of me cause he came from a blind spot. I pulled my hand so fast, that I hit the hood to the tank. That one hurt.

I haven't gotten mine to eat from my hand, but it does let me touch him......when I put my hand in the water he rubs up against like a cat

If the aro won't eat the krill, but will eat the crickets, try gut loading your crickets with the krill.

Nice! I never even thought of that thanks  . Right now I just feed them carrots. Do you have to give crickets water or do they get moisture from the carrots.

I have fed my crickets carrots, but I also keep one of the gel water cubes in there with them just to be on the safe side.
I've never had aros eat from my hand but used to have rayseat from my hand...very cool. Can't wait to start trying with my silver. :headbang2

carrots provides da crickets w/carotene which is suppose to be color enhancing. also da water in da carrots keeps da crickets hydrated. jus make sure its isn't all dried up.

It is cool, but I went to chopsticks after I got tapped, he's pretty gentle though. When I pour the pellets out of the bag, he swims over, opens his mouth and i pour like 3 at a time into his mouth!
