they're skittish, shy fish just like piranhas. They usually die on most people by the time they hit 12", most speculation says this is due to not having enough water current in the tank. I don't recall if people have had success with getting them on non-live foods..

It's possible to get them on non-live foods... Had my old Raphioidon vulpinus and payaras taking freeze dried Krill, chopped earthworms, and even Hikari Gold pellets :) GL!

ive tried non-live so many times i gave up, im hoping some day theyll snag an earthworm that i feed my rays. my scombs are slow growing i hope they make it past 12''. anyone have a pic of a large scomb?

ya it does look big. mine are pushin 12'' and are about 2yrs old. any pics to see how big he is?
