Why post a photos of a huge, large, really ugly, muddy colored adult matamata, when I can post photos of a cute little baby?
I got this guy as a sample, a sample of quality. If I like... I'll get more, if I'm unhappy he stays and I dont lose anything out of pocket. Anyhow.. I'm very happy with it, and I'll probably get a handful of them for the June expo.
I've had small matas, but nothing this small.... after I get more matas... I'm looking forward to some caiman lizards if the space allows.

Eats like a champ! I need to setup up a big ole stock tank with feeder guppies or mollies, and raise the crap out of them. Anybody know a good fish company that sells feeder guppies at wholesale price?

Mosquito fish Gambusia sp are cheaper and more hardy them guppys and molies;) Other small foods like earthworms, grass shrimp (only very small ones), good quality bloodworms and mosquito larvae, soft insects and even litle bits of meat and reptomin soaked in water will be taken:D Remenbar extreme water quality (use discus water quality as a model to follow for both quemistry and temps), shallow dephs and lots of hidding places are key points to keep this guys alive and triving. Never feed to much at once(if need be feed several times a day in litle porcions) or fish bigger then the distance bethween the turts eyes.

They get big.I caught one in the Amazon. It was at night and it tried to bite me.It was like a snapping turtle. It can reach around with that long neck and get you bad.
