An Asian aro in the US will cost you about a thousand (if not more) for a good fish, a few years in jail and a HUGE fine.
They are illegal due to their endangered status in the wild - meaning they are protected under the Endangered Species Act (not to mention CITES Appendix I).

You can always get them illegally by paying big bucks.
Depends how much you willing to spend.
I read some people in Canada brings them to US to make money.
Very risky.

I've seen a few in Chinatown of downtown Seattle, WA, but for really high prices.
You could, but I wouldn't risk it. Like they all said, you'd get in a lot of trouble. Hopefully sooner or later they will become legal. Until then, stick with the ones from SA or Oz

Where in seattle have you seen these asians??? I'll have to take a stroll out that way to see said aro.
I just wanted to repeat what has been said before. They are illegal because of the wild population is very low, and they are declining. The breeders would not release to increase the wild population because of poaching. Because of the Endangered Species Act, the US would not allow importation of the Scleropages Formosus, or any endangered species. Not even for breeding purposes. There are permits available at www.fws.gov, but not sure what criteria they would allow to get the permits approve to obtain any endangered species.
Someone returning from Thailand was caught at the airport with five asian aros (not sure what kind) in their hand carry luggage, and was fined $50,000. The fsh were also confiscated. Where the fish went, is everyones guess, I know one thing, I didn't get them :naughty:

has anybody seem asian arows in LA chinatown?? :naughty:
Basically you still can get asia arowanas in th black market over your side just that it'll be darn costly and careful on what you're paying for. Some con man actually feed hormon to their fishes to make them look red and thus making ppl who are not having enough knowledge in telling which is which ended up paying hell lots of money on low grade arowanas.
Of course you can get them, if it's worth it, thats up to you, I'd love to have some if I could,
