parasite/ich?

recently i've been noticing white spots all over the fins and bodies of the fish in one of my tanks. the spots come and go for some strange reason.. i've upped my temperature to 86 and am going to get some aquarium salt tomorrow. does this seem to match up to ich? what would be the cause of the spots to come and go? i've also attached a photo for a better idea! thanks in advance!http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t279/fishing_with_infamous/ich.jpg

yes that is ich, the reason they come and go and move around it because they have a fast life cycle and are reproducing. when they drop off is when they are susceptible to treatment. it is caused by dirty water and stress.....among other things.....read this thread http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2138158&postcount=2

caused by stress? does that explain why the more aggressive "bullies" of the tank (nandopsis haitensis) only seem to be showing minimal symptoms where the dithers and less aggressive fish (silver dollars and severums) are quite infested?

quite possibly. all fish in a tank with ich get infected usually but like your seeing some fish get a larger infestation, usually weaker/smaller/bullied/less dominant fish is what ive noticed. co-incidence or not i dont know.

salt with temp increase is regarded as the best treatment to use but if you prefer the chemical route then waterlife protazin is good, if you have loaches then i suggest interpet anti-whitespot as it can be used at full strength with loaches and other "scaleless"/sensitive fish.

Add when you do your water changes. Once ich disappears, continue treatment for another full week to completely destroy all the protozoans.

okay thanks! Now it doesn't really say how to dose it.. i'm assuming i don't just throw twenty tablespoons of salt and that's that...

A tablespoon per 5g. If you're doing a partial water change, just dose per the amount of water volume you just replaced.

Dissolve first in a cup of tank water and gradually add.
