Does your significant other or family members like your catfish??
My wife and sisters get grossed out whenever they see large pims.
They cant stand the whiskers. It reminds them of cockroach or rats they say .LOL

my parents thought my generic spotted pictus catfish totally rocked; active, shiny, and territorial. I killed him and my s. eupterus off 2 months ago due to negligence during a water change :(

I guess most gals are ok with fishes with more vibrant color or patterns...it is a proven fact that it is normally easier for your wife/galfren to agree to your fish keeping hobby if you start up with marine tanks rather than freshwaters...they just like all the small fishes with bright colors!

I think for the context of GFs...it is the sheer cuteness of the fishes that attracks the gals...
the no 1 GF is that attracts all gals... RANCHU!

I second that. Ranchus...
In fact anything other than than a fish that resembles the fish on our dinner table is yucks to them. NO plecos, no cories, no bichirs....

My GF doesn't like the albino cories that came with my community setup, but she likes pretty much anything else.

That's what I thought, too, but these gross her out. On the other hand, she liked a friend's big RTC a lot...

I have recently closed down every single tank that I owned and kept only my green aro, a small paulicia, a small Sperata aor, anguilla marmorata, 13" piraya and a small manny - 22 fish tanks and thousands of pounds of fish have now gone - mainly due to a woman -
the fact is, once you get rid of the things you care about you realise that what you are left with is not worth much at all ... so she has now become my ex ... and I am left to try and rebuild the collection that I once had.

Sacrifice is all part of being in a relationship.
Give and take and COMPROMISE.
Sometimes people that dont like(Fish, reptiles, birds, dogs, fossils, cats, antiques)
marry someone that is PASSIONATE about any of those things.
The end result?
Either the person thats passionate gives up their passion and refocuses it on their new acquisition.
Or the person that could care less becomes the person that wants to join in.
Or the person that isnt interested RESPECTS the right of the person they love to be themselves, and doesnt try to change them.
Often, women try to change men once they marry them or get serious.
This is a huge mistake, esp if the persons behaviour doesnt include sleeping around or violence or ignoring their g/f, but only includes a passion for animals, fish etc.
Choose carefully next time, get a chick that at least LIKES animals...maybe even fish...and digs you.

Everyone in my family liked the tiny cory cats I got, but I cant understand why the giant cory (Brochis bristkii) was so 'disgusting'?! Anyway, Plecos are 'gross'-especially bristlenose, and my helicopter cat is 'creepy, but cool'. as an aside, everyone hated my 'ugly Geophagus' until I got a compact fluourescent light so everyone can see their irridescence, which I could see all along. Now they're 'so pretty'. What can I say-- 'the mob is fickle'.
my parents think my raphial cats are awsome!

Yeah women seem to hate the whiskers.... they find it gross. For me the longer the whisker and tail filaments , the better...

My mother loves my oscars....whever I tell her a fish died she says "Was it an oscar?" but she also loves my pink convict. She does not like my catfish (white line pim and a pictus) at all. They remind her of rats and scavengers and such. Everyone else like my catfish but not nearly as much as they do the cichlids. I had a female roommate who never liked my fish because they were either to big or to drab. Even my N. brichardi were to drab for her and they are a rather feminine fish if you ask me. She only likes the fast moving cute and colorful fish. I tell her I like catfish and cichlids because of their intelligence and personality. I like to a lot of girls or even people in general fish are just ornaments and if they don't look "pretty" they are not worth having.
