If I ever get my cam working again I will post a pic of my Delhizi

I believe now you need at least 10 posts to become a full member and be able to see the pics. You'll also need to log-in again after the 10 post cause it takes a few minutes before the server gets updated.

Hi Gang!
Here are a couple of flix of the little guy (gal?) I "rescued" from my local WalMart.
Poor thing ... lights on 24/7, no hiding places, only as big around as a pencil!
As you can see here, a little TLC does wonders!
http://media.putfile.com/bicher-052206
It only took a couple hours in the big tank before he started to make himself at home!
http://media.putfile.com/bicher_burrowing-052206
Not sure about the sex or species as it's been 20-some years since I had a Poly!
(any info would be appreciated!)
Best wishes,

aquanut- that is not a bichir in your movies...i believe it is called a violet goby.

Well not really bulk discount. I got them for $13 a piece. Only one of them is patternless. The other two have black stripes but not fully develop yet. I hope they become full stripes when older.
And aquanot that's not a polypterus on your videos. It's a violet goby or dragon goby just like xrayz said. They're brackish water fish so it's best that they live in brackish water and not freshwater.

The kid at WalMart didn't know what it was or what to charge for it!
LOL!
I checked the biggest lfs in the area (300+ tanks) and asked why the albino bichers they had didn't look anything like what they had listed as "common" bicher (identical to what I have) a couple of tanks away ... the guy there didn't have a clue either! :screwy:
Now that I can finally "see" the pics you all have posted, (guess I'm now "officially" a member! Yay!) the difference is more than clear!
Having found you guys, I gotta ask if a *true* bicher (I'm considering the albino) will cohabitate peacefully with this goby? He's such a cool fish (starting to hand feed) I couldn't consider parting with him! BTW, how big *do* these puppies get in a tank?
Hmmmmm now I'm begining to wonder if that African Knife might *really* be an African Fork!
Thanks again,

I don't know for myself, but since is300zx menthioned that the goby prefers brackisch waters, it's clear that the combination goby bichir isn't going to work out.

Yup they are brackish fish. Some people try to keep them on freshwater but I haven't read anyone keeping them successfully for long term in freshwater. From what I read they just slowly deteriorate in freshwater. They can reach up to 24" and they seem to be filter feeders. They can only eat very small size foods and they're not predatory fish like bichirs. Bichirs are freshwater by the way and not brackish. So mixing them together is not recommended unless of course you keep your goby in freshwater which is also not recommended.
Here's a link for more info on your goby http://aqualandpetsplus.com/Oddball,%20Dragon%20Goby.htm

My lfs is a wholesaler that's open to the public. I think most of their fish comes from Asia and probably are farm bred there. I think they only sell ornates, delhezis, albino senegals and regular senegals. The ornate and delhezi goes for about the same. Don't know about the senegals.

You guys there have higher chance than me to collect more species, since our importers don't want to risk on big container demanding fishes, unless it's highly profitable.
That dwarf polli looks normal in shape, but, just never grew since 7". You are good to notice that chunk missing of the female mokelembembe. That happened during transporting from US to TW to my house. In fact, both were from Toyin. The chunk is growing back, but very slow. I've provided some rock sites for them, and ever since then, I have no chance to take any photos for them. I will try to take video for it, but, don't count on that.:D

Yup, luckily, I know a fish magzine guy who's also an importer and we are proceeding a bichir related project. Can tell from the photos that you've successfully pumped yours up. I bet the color difference mostly comes from the flash lighting methods for photography, I can still tell the brownish from yours.

My weeksii did yawn frequently few years ago, but, it less does yawning as it growing large (similar as my other bichirs).

I think this is its fully developed pattern:

Can tell the high back from this pose:
http://photos.imageevent.com/codomo/endlicheri07/websize/IMG_7379.JPG
The 8th, a wild caught with long thin body shape (unlike #4~#7), it's potentially be the longest endlicheri of mine, (female):

The 9th (female):

The 10th (female):

She has nice patterns underside:

The 11th imported from Japan (female):

She has more patterns underside than the former one:

How uncommon? Let's say before last year, there's not any endlicheri in our LFS has patterns underside. I believe most wild caught endlicheris have plain belly. The Japanese selective breeding to create full batch of endlicheri with nice stripes (not only marks) underside which are sold at the price around 300~700 usd.
Check the link: http://www.gef-endlicheri.com/endy06_0228/menu.html
Anyway, the farm at SE Asia (Indonesia) successfully bred the ones with underside markings since last year end, so, here we saw some specimens with underside markings this year, and I've seen few batches endlicheris lately which all have underside markings (the price is around 60usd), though not as much patterned as those from JP.
Also check this link: http://www.redcen.co.jp/dori-k.html
(Do check the price of that white thing)
Great update CDM,
Interesting how each endi has unique charcteristics. Do you notice much growth after the 18" mark?
Great update CDM,

None of mine hit that mark even though the oldest is about 7yrs old. I expect my 10th endlicheri (the one with long and thin body shape) can cross the mark, it spent a yr to grow up to 16", maybe it's the one. Other endlicheris with broad body even stop at around 16".
Oh, my 2nd and 3rd did hit the mark, that's almost a year ago, I don't even measure any growth since then.

maybe we should trade lol
Just got three big chunk (1~2ft) of sink wood for them, but, they don't seem to like those, and stay away from the woods. They used to spread over the tank bottom like carpet, now they squeeze and stack in the corner. Anyway, next step will be black gravels.
http://photos.imageevent.com/codomo/fishcommunity/websize/DSCF0100.JPG
Occasionaly they spread a while.
http://photos.imageevent.com/codomo/fishcommunity/websize/DSCF0108.JPG
The lungfish adapted very soon.

hopefully they will spread out again after the gravel is in there.

great addition CDM. are those malaysian driftwood? i see the lung found a hiding spot away from that red tail gourami :D
what's your reason for choosing black substrate? i know they generally work pretty well in freshwater setup, but they can also turn bichirs into charcoal lol, maybe not 100% of the time and maybe not for all species or all individuals, but i've seen pics and have read people who tried it and didn't like it. at the very least i think it will darken the base color, lessen the contrast, and/or make the color a little dull. i don't know. just my 2 cents.:)

That lungfish got the spot right after I setup the wood, guess the RTGG gives it high pressure.

I can't imagine neither. The wood is setup for them, hope they will get use to it soon.

The LFS said those driftwood are from SE Asia, you seem to knew those malaysian driftwood!? Though the lungfish found a hiding spot, the RTGG doesn't agree with that. The RTGG drives it out and stays there a while, then takes off. But, the lungfish sneaks in soon. They repeat the cycle frequently.
As for the black gravels, I'm planning to record (with photos) the different color affected by the color of gravels. Next after the black gravels will be river sand.

i actually don't really know driftwoods, but i've always liked the malaysians since they have this nice branchy look, so i was just wondering what yours are :D anyway they are very nice! i like them a lot.
oh sorry i thought you were trying to add a permanent substrate. That would be an AWESOME project! will look forward to your findings. are you going to try red sand as well?

lol, I see. The LFS imported 50 pcs of big chunk driftwood, Some do have very nice branchy look and is hard to choose among. And, about red sand, I can't find natural red sand but only artificial red sand (dyed). I might not risk my bichirs with those artificial stuffs.

ooh, did I say palmas? lol, I was looking at pics of soome one else's palmas, guess I had the name on my mind :)
Hes about 8", and Ive had him about a month. Thanks for the compliment, he has the most personality of all my fish. Im definately buying another of a different kind. My LFS had a delhezi but It was only about 2.5" and I was afraid it would be eaten. Im goin to try to find a bigger one :)
delhezi are real nice. i agree you should try to find one bigger to be safe.
p.palmas polli have lots of character and are as active as senegals also.
